I love baking from scratch. There’s so much love poured into the time and effort of a homemade meal. What I’m going to share today is my latest effort to give you a yummy dish made from scratch: homemade biscuits with molasses spread. Who likes the thought of easy homemade biscuits? Me, me, me! I have tried LOTS of recipes. Heck, I’ve still not been able to get a Bisquick biscuit to turn out right. Bisquick and I have always had a rocky relationship. But after some research and a lot of recipe fails, I’ve got it. When I think of a good biscuit I think of buttery, sl ..read more

This warm-ish weather has me dreaming of summer. Among other things, summer reminds me of cool drinks, sand beneath my toes and seasonal fruit. Seasonal fruit reminds me of watermelons, strawberries…and blueberries! And if you give Casey blueberries, she’s going to want butter, sugar, crushed pineapples, cake mix, and pecans to go with it. Some call this dish Blueberry Dump. We call it Blueberry Crunch. (Blueberries are yummy and healthy. Click here to read about all of their awesome benefits.) Once again, this recipe comes from my dad. It’s our family get together go-to ..read more

Can I go off topic here? This post has nothing to do with baking or dogs. I just felt led to share my musical testimony. Testimony: a statement or declaration, evidence in support of a fact or statement, open declaration or profession, as of faith. Music has always been a passion of mine and I love all kinds of music. Growing up, I was a huge fan of Huey Lewis and the News. In fact, it was their music and their drummer that inspired me to get involved. In my latter elementary school years, I took piano lesson from my aunt. I learned how to read music although I stunk at it. St ..read more

I can smell it now: warm turkey, deviled eggs, stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, and pumpkin pie. If you think this tastes and smells delicious, your dog agrees. This will be Marshall’s first Thanksgiving and he has no idea the heavenly smells he’s about to encounter at my family’s house. So, I planned ahead and included my 45 pound ball of love into the Thanksgiving festivities. I can’t give him the whole Thanksgiving feast but he will get dessert. Thankfully, the ingredients were already in my kitchen except for one so its not too late to make one for your doggo. I give you: Doggie ..read more

Sweet and sour meatballs with cornbread and homemade applesauce. Man, I love meatballs. Whether they’re on top of spagetti (cue the song we all learned in Kindergarten), by themselves, sweet and sour, savory, or spicy, they taste good pretty much any way you make them. As a kid, my mom made delicious sweet and sour meatballs. It was a real treat when she made them since she didn’t make them often. I remember watching her make them. I don’t remember the details, only that I knew I was in for a treat when she made them. I know there’s a meal from your childhood that you are fond ..read more

Blueberry Cookies with Lemon Glaze

These fluffy blueberry cookies with lemon glaze go perfect with tea or coffee. Do you have a food that you like only when it’s been cooked or baked into something? That’s how I feel about blueberries and lemons. By themselves, I’m not a fan but put them in a cookie, a drink, shoot, a glaze atop my steak and I will devour it. That’s what makes these blueberry lemon cookies so yummy. The fresh fruit is baked right in and sandwhich-ed between soft cookie dough. It’s taken a couple of years to perfect this recipe. First, there was too much flour. Then, the cook time wasn’t right ..read more
