When Midlife Crashes In On You
When The Clock Strikes Midlife

When did you have your “moment?” You know, your Jerry McGuire meltdown, whether outward or inward. That moment you said to yourself, and perhaps out loud, “WTF? Enough is enough! I can’t live like this anymore.”   I know exactly when and where I was, even though I can’t remember what I had for lunch today ..read more

Ditch 2022 Resolutions. Try These 5 Motivating Things Instead

Ditch 2022 Resolutions. Try These 5 Motivating Things Instead If you’re already rolling your eyes by the title alone, I get it. Especially after these past two years. I joke that 2020 was my fault because I bought a physical planner to write in for the first time in a decade. The universe wasn’t ready for all that planning I was planning. Anyhow, I was never a New Year’s Resolution person. A list of things that I’d realistically never get completed stresses me out to even think about it. Even if I have an entire year I feel defeated before I’ve even made the list. Do you prepare for a new ..read more

Last Minute Gifts By Women for Women 40+ Yes, it’s December and every year it seems we are pressured into getting Christmas done before Thanksgiving. If you’re anything like me you just cannot do Christmas before December 1st because: 1. I love Thanksgiving, and 2. Can we stop rushing life please? There, I said it. I’m not a Scrooge, I’m more like Cindy Lou Who, who wanted everyone to calm the f@ck down and get into the spirit of Christmas, not the chaos.  Each of these items were handpicked by me. They are top rated items and are made by companies that are woman-owned and operated ..read more

“If We Don’t Tell Our Stories, Who Will?” A Book Review of Carly Israel’s Memoir, Seconds and Inches
When The Clock Strikes Midlife
by CinDi Lo

Why do we like reading memoirs, biographies, autobiographies, and everyday people’s stories?  It is to connect in a way that makes us all human. To see that someone else on this planet also has been through it and we are seeing them on the other side. Their personal story is our story, with different names and dates. This memoir is a culmination of Carly Israel healing herself, and her family through their generational trauma, her self-destructive habits, her broken family, love’s lost and found, and most admirably, the fierceness of a mother’s love and trusting her intuition. Carly holdi ..read more

Midlife at 50? I’ve Always Been a Late Bloomer

When is Midlife? It seems to me that it’s more of a series of milestones than an age. My wise-guy son commented that I am past midlife. I told him for that remark, I will live to 100 just to annoy him! I’ve always been a late bloomer, even when losing teeth as a child. In first grade everyone was getting cash from the tooth fairy except me! My period, 14. Actually needing a bra, 16. Growing up being small, short, and as skinny as Olive Oil was not fun. By the time I could wear adult size shoes and clothes, yes, also 16. If I were a teen now I would probably have to drive to my prom in a booste ..read more

This time of year most of us midlife women are preparing for the holidays, and although we keep ourselves busy and pre-occupied, it often is a melancholy time for us, especially this year. These major life events have forever changed us, our families, and our holiday tables, leaving empty seats and empty hearts. &n ..read more

KAREN, HOLD MY LATTE. HERE IS HOW WE SUPPORT WOMEN OF COLOR
When The Clock Strikes Midlife

Preface: The title of this piece is not to suggest this is a humorous topic. Far from it. If you follow this blog you know this is my style of writing. Warning: ‘White Fragility’ may rear its head in the points below. THAT is why I urge all women to read on. It is also the reason that I feel so strongly that this shared space is needed for the benefit of both White Women (“WW”) and Women of Color (“WOC”). A few points by the writer: Point 1.  Yes. I am addressing WW because, as a WW, I see very clearly that we need to understand this, and we really DO NOT, because we never truly can. Now ..read more
