New Year’s resolutions don’t hold much appeal for me. They feel like a set up for a letdown. Resolutions tend to compel sweeping oaths, such as “I’m going to get healthier this year.” Or they may sound reasonable: “I’ll eat more vegetables, go to yoga three times a week…” Regardless, they don’t leave much wiggle-room, other outcomes, or evolution throughout the year. But it does leave room for feeling like a failure, or like I’m falling short.
On the other hand, choosing a word for the year feels inspiring. A chosen word is like a friend or an ally that cheers us on. It can be c ..read more

December 2022
This holiday season is full of fun activities and entertaining opportunities galore. “A highlight of Atlanta’s joyful season is the Peachtree Garden Club Christmas Home Tour in early December. This community event, held annually, is renowned for showcasing four of the most beautiful homes in Atlanta, decorated in imaginative holiday trimmings”. My girlfriends and I recently participated in the festive home tours, and it did not disappoint! I came across some fabulous decorating ideas that I wo ..read more

A lookahead to travel in 2023
Travel in 2022 has been something else. After pandemic restrictions that kept international travel down for two years, people were willing to put up with just anything to satisfy their wanderlust. And boy, did they. So many people tried to fit their revenge travel in that airlines and airports were still short-staffed from pandemic-related layoffs, and early retirements were overwhelmed. Flights were canceled by the hundreds, luggage was lost at an astounding rate, and the Transportation Department designed a new rule to compensate passengers who experienced cance ..read more

Healthy Habits to Boost Immunity
Winter doesn’t have to mean getting sick with the crud. There are many ways to boost immunity during these chilly months to prevent sickness and enjoy a healthy winter season.
As the sunlight fades and the mercury steadily drops, the chilly season of sniffles and sneezes sets in. Can we blame Jack Frost and the sliding temperatures for this onslaught of cold and flu?
The short answer is no. The long answer is that several factors contribute to these aches and pains. For example, there are a few reasons the cold is so common, such as:

What goals did you set at the beginning of 2022? What are your goals for 2023?
I’m not a New Year’s resolutions kind of person. But as 2022 draws to a close, I’m focused on my number one goal for the year: to finish the novel I’m writing. It’s almost done, with just the finale waiting to be put on the page. In early 2023, I’ll send it to my editor. Once the edit is done, I will look for a publishing home for my newest novel and start writing the next one.
This book took longer to write than most of my others. One reason is because of what was going on in my life over the extraordinarily challe ..read more

Just like the advertisements: “Got Milk”, “Just Do It”, it’s that simple: Start a Club. You don’t have to know everything about your wine, your floral arranging, etc. or in my case, pie. You just have to want to learn more about whatever club you begin. But beyond the thing being learned, more importantly will be the community you create together!
My pie club began with our company, Vermont Rolling Pins. I decided I had to learn how to use the rolling pins my husband was turning. I began by providing a sign up at a craft show. And I met Deb, my greatest pie club asset, not only a woman ..read more

“You’re Invited!”
Nature extends her annual autumn invitation to slow down, to let go. Not only that, but she shows us how….
As I walk the forest path in autumn’s softer light, I am framed by a cathedral of sloping arches, heavy with the red of star-shaped Maple leaves. The cooling, shifting, seasonal winds sift and sort through the trees in a gentle sway-dance. The trees gracefully follow the dance by releasing leaves in swirling, spiral falls that carpet the ground in a mosaic, like a warm blanket that beckons to rest. They let go with elegance, beauty, and grace. The great Sufi poet Rumi en ..read more
