Every time a new Wear OS watch is announced, I am intrigued. I have been using the platform for almost a decade now, and I like to try new watches to see what they offer in terms of features, comfort, battery life, and more. Google has announced it will remove third-party apps and watch faces from the Fitbit app gallery in the EU.
EU users will be able to continue downloading and installing third-party apps until June 2024.
Users outside of the EU will be unaffected.
Update: March 22, 2024 (12:36 PM ET): A Google spokesperson has reached out to Android Authority to confirm that EU owners will still have access to the third-party apps and clock faces they’ve downloaded. Fitbit is getting a new AI-powered chatbot that analyzes your health data and answers your questions in natural language.
The bot will be made available later this year to Fitbit Premium users enrolled in the Fitbit Labs program.

Google is retiring the “Fitbit by Google” branding in favor of “Google Fitbit.”
The dotted Fitbit logo is also no longer appended with the brand name.
Google is wholly taking over the Fitbit branding three years after completing the acquisition of the wearables brand. Google One is giving customers in the UK two new perks today.
Fitbit Premium and Nest Aware have been included with some Google One subscriptions.
Subscribers will reportedly get the base Nest Aware plan with the ability to get Nest Aware Plus as an add-on.

Fitbit’s small-form fitness trackers have represented a bright spot in the company’s confusing landscape these past two years. While Google’s Pixel Watch line seemed to kneecap Fitbit’s in-house smartwatches, the brand’s Charge and Inspire lineups remain fantastic buys from Fitbit’s stable. The latest update to the Fitbit Charge 5 is reportedly causing excessive battery drain and bricking devices.
