They say the suit is dead, we say Long live the suit! Read about how we’re tailoring Glasgow, one suit at a time. As the work from home culture becomes the norm and is hopefully here to stay, I’ve been reading a lot recently that the suit is dead and hearing from clients things like I cant remember the last time I wore a suit. So as the demand for office suits and workwear diminishes, what does that mean for tailoring? And more specifically, tailoring in Glasgow. Since moving to our new Glasgow bespoke tailoring studio, our client list has grown significantly, with each month being busier tha ..read more

Mr Box visited our bespoke tailoring studio as the covid restrictions eased with a very specific brief, a classic and timeless morning suit for his mid summer wedding in the stunning Hambledon Vineyard in Hampshire. Morning suits are very traditional for English weddings, but rarely seen in Scotland, which is one of the reasons I enjoy working on them. A morning suit is comprised of a long, usually black tail coat with lighter coloured trousers and waistcoat underneath. We cut Mr Box’s coat from a very subtle black herringbone worsted wool, with a the trousers being cut from a grey and charco ..read more

The Tuxedo exists under several guises; dinner suit, black tie suit, DJ, evening suit, call it what you like, the garment is elegant, classic, timeless and something we’re fast gaining a reputation for doing very well. The name Tuxedo is an American term used to describe the typical evening suit that we all know and love; evoking images of classic menswear icons such as Frank Sinatra or James Bond and the Hollywood red carpet. Traditionally a tuxedo is worn at evening events such as charity auctions or dinners, gala balls or any event that requests black tie dress code but the garment is becom ..read more

Bridal tailoring is now a regular occurrence at Hunter Kingsley, but if it wasn’t for the confidence and belief in our quality from some of our earlier brides, I’m confident that we wouldn’t be working with as many as we are today. Two of our earliest brides are Ms McCafferty & Ms Coll, a couple that, like so many others, had to wait for their perfect day due to Covid restrictions and the uncertainty that came with it. We started the process in our Miller Road studio in Ayr, looking at various styles and fabrics to create two beautiful suits that were both similar and complimentary yet uni ..read more

Bespoke Shirts

Bespoke shirt making is one of our most popular tailoring services. A well fitting shirt is hard to come by, often to get the fit in the chest or the waist there is a compromise with sleeve length or neck width making it uncomfortable. With a bespoke shirt we take the same amount of measurements as we would a bespoke suit, and undertake the same process of drafting a pattern for every client, so no two shirts are the same. Choose from a range of fabrics to suit any occasion from crisp fine white cotton for evening events, or soft oxford cloth for a more relaxed feel. Design every element of y ..read more

Wedding season is in full swing and it’s a real pleasure to see images of clients that we’ve worked with enjoying their big day wearing their beautiful bespoke suits. Mr Ross was a regular client already so it was great to be able to make his bespoke wedding outfit. He was looking for something that was traditional yet modern and wasn’t the usual Highlandwear look. He was keen to look at Morning dress and we explored various fabric combinations for the coat, waistcoat and trousers, eventually settling on MacCallum tartan trousers, a dove grey waistcoat and a black morning coat with a very sub ..read more

As the restrictions of the last couple of years fade from memory, some positive elements have remained. Throughout the restrictions we have continued to work with clients via video call and posting samples to client’s houses and offices. Mr Rankin was one of the pioneers in this. Mr Rankin got in touch to commission his wedding outfit after being inspired by a very specific tartan that he was keen to incorporate. The Leaping Salmon Tartan is a Hebridean tartan design woven in Scotland by reputable weavers; House of Edgar. The Hebridean Tartan offering from House of Edgar is comprised of a rang ..read more

Over the last few years I’ve become more and more familiar with the life and works of Robert Burns, and the more I learn the more I’m fascinated by the man, his work and the folklore that goes with it. Living in Ayr for the last 6 years has opened my eyes to the amazing stories and history of Burns that most aren’t aware of, I love the famous Address To A Haggis and Tam O’Shanter, as well as the traditional Burn’s Night staples of haggis and whisky, but this year I wanted to do something different. So in the spirit of Burns, I dismissed the traditional pomp and ceremony, left the tartan at hom ..read more
