Dear Friends,  Monday, August 10, much of Iowa, and parts of Illinois and Wisconsin experienced a Derecho, a storm similar to a hurricane. With wind in excess of 110 mph for over 20 minutes, covering all 75 square miles of our beautiful city, you can imagine the devastation we are facing. The sound of chainsaws and service vehicles as neighbors and workers clear our streets and homes of downed trees and power lines has been constant since the storm passed and is a reminder that recovery is underway.  Thank you for the many thoughts and prayers being sent our way. We had storms with 100 mph gusts of winds whip through Cedar Rapids today. The power is out at the lab and we don’t expect it to come back on until late this evening or tomorrow morning.
