There’s been a lot of talk regarding painkillers and the opioid epidemic recently, and for good reason. According to a 2017 National Safety Council report, for the first time in history, the average person is more likely to die of an overdose than a car accident.
More specifically, the study found that the lifetime odds of
dying in an automobile accident were 1 in 103, whereas the odds of a fatal
opioid overdose were 1 in 96.
