An artist and their art can evolve quite a bit over time. What i experienced these past couple of weeks was a significant change in my artistic abilities. I feel like I experienced a clear transition. Let me explain I have a past in my artistic career of painting solely realism and copying pictures onto canvas. I got very good at recording what I saw into a painting or drawing. What I was missing though was the creativity and that energy that can only come from me and that was my own. I am super proud that I have begun this journey, a journey of pushing myself to do things that I have always wanted to do but put off for so long. I have been living in fear and self-judgment for years now and this is just a way for me to write about how I have been slowly changing that. I have changed a lot as a person and an artist over the years. My views about what i feel art to be have changed a lot as well. I like to break things down to the basic and simple. Art is a general term but I think the definition I have found in my life as a painter and an artist can be used for any type of art form. I get this question almost all the time when I talk about the kind of paintings I make. Ok but...what is abstract art? My personal truth about abstract painting has changed a lot over time. Especially now that I have embraced it as my favourite thing to paint. There obviously is a formal definition for it: It is a type of art that does not attempt to represent external reality whatsoever. I would go even further and say it represents solely the internal reality.
