The Ugandan Tourist

Uganda’s wildlife authority has incentivised access to its wildlife product in a 4 months festive season promotional offer. The discount includes significant reductions in both its gorilla tracking and chimpanzee tracking fees targeting Ugandan citizens, East Africans, Foreign Residents, and Foreign Non-Residents. As many job opportunities are lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Africa’s tourism sector has been in some of its most innovative times. Host communities have had to strive in order to survive the toughest year in recent history. For tour operators it’s been a time of introspecti ..read more

Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) Unveils Tiger Pair
The Ugandan Tourist
by The Ugandan Tourist

A few months ago I heard about the introduction of a tiger pair in Uganda. Well, today, the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) has let the cat out of the bag, over half a century since tigers were last seen at the then Entebbe zoo; the only place they’ve ever been known to live in Uganda. Speaking at a press conference that was also streamed live on the wildlife center’s social media channels this morning, the UWEC Executive Director, Dr. James Musinguzi said the male and female pair (aged 2 years and 3 months) arrived on 7th March 2020 from a South African partner zoo before ..read more

Still Gigantic And Gentle; A Mountain Gorilla Safari Behind The COVID-19 Scenes
The Ugandan Tourist

It was partly tough but hilarious to watch fellow trackers panting their way through the misty jungle in masks, on our way to the Rushegura mountain gorilla family. A new way to see Uganda’s most prized tourist attraction during the COVID-19 times. Let’s rewind to about 2 months ago…. A friend and fellow avid promoter of tourism invited me to join a team of six photographers and videographers on a month-long escapade branded “Uganda Wild N Live”. The goal was to visit, see, capture, and broadcast (where possible in realtime, LIVE) some of the whispers from Uganda’s wild side of life as destina ..read more

Chatting Tourism Recovery With Paul Goldring At Ishasha Wilderness Camp
The Ugandan Tourist
by The Ugandan Tourist

Ishasha Wilderness Camp was the final stop and the climax of our itinerary during “The Best Job Ever” road trip of 14 wild days around Uganda. Stunning, private, intimate, both relaxed, super-efficient, and wild enough for my convenience! This safari retreat was built for people who truly enjoy the wild. We slept to the laughter of hyenas and wild sounds all through the night, and in the morning, rose in the pitch-black, about an hour before dawn. Coffee was served to warm our lungs and off we went under Mike and Paul’s advice to wait at the edge of a ridge where we had enjoyed one of the most ..read more

Uganda Primate Tourism Resumes – Gorilla Baby Boom And Airport Reopening

At dawn chorus, the sun gently wakes up from beyond the horizon of an untouched African savanna reflecting its golden face on the mirror-like waters of the Albert Nile, one of many special sections along the world’s longest river as it flows from its source in Jinja towards the Mediterranean Sea. From a distance, silhouettes are created of a giraffe tower browsing the thorny acacia branches while an elephant herd leads to the river’s banks for its morning drink. For so many weeks, this scene in the Murchison Falls National Park, one of Uganda’s most popular safari spots seemed very unreal but ..read more

GUEST BLOG: My Review Of Pian-Upe Wildlife Reserve – Too Good To Be True
The Ugandan Tourist
by Mozes Mutungi

Generally speaking, Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve is a Beautiful place for any nature lover. A few weeks ago a team of four local travelers traversed Uganda on a post-COVID hope journey that was called “The Best Job Ever”. A 14 wild days’ discovery odyssey that would climax in the creation of a heartrending new tourism documentary about the awesomeness in Uganda’s countryside.  One of the many stops on their itinerary was Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve, a spot that became a favorite for me; and this journey brought back many memories of this wild wonderland known to not so many; deep in northeaste ..read more
