Earlier last month, World Lethwei Championship made a blockbuster announcement that the leading lethwei promotion would be holding its spectacles across multiple countries throughout the 2020/2021 season, including a historic showcase in Tokyo, Japan. The plan by World Lethwei Championship is to hold its show in late June or early July, as a precursor to the official start of the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics next year. Former interim UFC lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier, has been working with his charity, The Good Fight Foundation, to help fundraise for various projects. Most notably, Poirier was helping the charity raise money to help the Pygmy People of Uganda to have more fresh, clean water supplies. Cage Warriors were planning a promotional record 15 events this year, but the promotion was forced to put some events on hold as we entered the lockdown. With the majority of the UFC’s stadium events being cancelled this announcement doesn’t come as too much of a surprise but the promotion has now officially confirmed that the UFC Dublin show is cancelled. The announcement is also unsurprising as the UFC 252 PPV event with the Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier rubber match has been scheduled for August 15th and it was highly unlikely that the promotion would run two cards on the same night in the current circumstances.
