It has been a long journey. You all know that all too well since you have been so patient and read all of my 57 (so far...) articles on the restoration process.  We are now approaching the very end of the project. The bike is very soon completed and the restoration of it concluded.  Today I finished it visually.  The wind screen got back on. Or rather, the new one did...  The decals also got ready today and I had a great day in the garage finishing up this and that and putting the sponsor decals on one by one. Tricky but rewarding! This day actually started yesterday evening at Tullarn ..read more

These days I don´t do much other than work on the racer.  There´s still lots of small stuff to attend to. My time is split between the garage, the computer and different shops all over town looking for parts, tools or material. Yesterday I came in contact with a graphics business here in Stockholm that could help me getting the correct numbers on the bike. Remember I need the number "12" as my start number. That is what "ESSO" had on it when he won the Swedish GP. Those numbers would be fairly easy to get done. I sent them a mail with good pictures of the characters and they will make new on ..read more

The last two-three days have been hectic to say the least. I´ve been working on the bike, taking lots of pictures and sitting by the computer getting those last parts here in time. Thankfully I´ve been searching the net regularly during the last three years in an endless hunt for those elusive Kawasaki H1R parts. Last week a set of clutch plates surfaced in the UK and I was able to get them. Nice to have a spare set of those! There are lots of small things still needing attention on the bike and only a few days left to do it on. This will be a rather long post with many pictures, but they sa ..read more

Since my last post I´ve been waiting, trying and modifying... I´ve Done some shopping over the internet for more parts and also locally, here in Stockholm, getting more safety wire. I now have two quite large bobbins of wire 0,6 and 0,8 mm that for sure will last a life time. I just need to muster the energy to get it done. One of these days... A few weeks ago I helped a friend and colleague to get his new BMW motorcycle close to Hällestad where my aluminium tank is being made. I called Bert and asked how things were moving along.  - "Good thing you called, I need to ask you a few questions ..read more

In the previous post I said a couple of days more in the garage would have the electrical system finished and possibly spark on the plugs... Well, that is kind of true but it involved a weekend of puzzlement and deep pondering over electrical circuits in general and this ignition system in particular. Nothing comes easy on this restoration. Part due to the nature of the work and part due to personal shortcomings. Here´s the story: I really don´t like doing electrics and ignition systems. I suck at it, big time. So, better start out easy and try to find out which breaker point serves which ..read more

Getting that restored exhaust system back on the bike sure felt good. It also gave me a boost to continue with the other stuff needing attention. I have had the cables (throttle and choke) laying beneath the bike on the lift ready for mounting for a while and now was the time to get it done.  Once the cables are on and working I will be also be able to get the grips on and, sort of, get the "cockpit" more or less ready for starting up.  Putting cables on also means adjusting their function and making sure everything works as it was once intended. Let´s start with the choke cable. I had ..read more

OK, back from a two-week vacation in Japan and Thailand and another two weeks being seriously sick and cold after coming home to wintery Sweden. Some more progress has been made on the racer project while I was away and also after coming home. During my vacation I was thinking it would be real smart if Bert at Alucars would start out with the repair of the expansion chambers instead of building the aluminium tank. I need to continue working on the bike more than getting the tank ready for the start-up. I sent him an e- mail while on vacation and hoped he could change his schedule if he hadn ..read more

I write these first lines of this post after I completed it. It is a long post, probably the longest so far... But that might actually be sort of appropriate since this is a small anniversary.  It is my 50th post in the blog! Thanks to you all for reading and I sure hope this one will be as interesting as the older ones.  Enjoy! I finally had the energy to get down to business with the carburetors and getting them cleaned up and refurbished and on to the bike. I did a halfhearted try to clean one of them a while ago but the way the engine looks now made that effort very insufficient. I ha ..read more
