A concept that has been a long time dream for me… Through all the hours spend diving the reefs here in Vanuatu there have been countless times when big Dogtooth turn up and really scope you out while your targeting reef fish with the reel-gun… If you read/follow my content you will already know that despite choosing a few perfect opportunities to take a shot on dogtooth of up to 30kg, most of the time I let the opportunity pass leaving the fish to swim unharmed… A big part of the decision not to take a shot has always been the fact that the small single roller/reel-gun simply doesn’t have the ..read more

What is Titanium Lining on Wetsuits?

Over the past 20 years technology and innovation has taken us to many new and exciting places. As a result, manufacturing equipment for such conditions has been pushed to keep up with these demands and requirements in order for spearos to do so with success. Titanium-lined neoprene was developed by Japan's Yamamoto Corporation in the 1980s. This technology was based on NASA research aimed at reducing extreme temperatures during spaceship re-entry – a thin Titanium coating is applied to the neoprene surface before the bonding of the outer fabric material. The Vermilion series of wetsuits (3 generations) were our most popular wetsuit by a looooong way!! Not only were they extremely well built and super comfortable due to the Titanium lining (see yesterday’s post) but the red/purple camo was eye catching and looked amazing! Our Team of divers and loyal customers have shot some amazing fish in these suits, from the Coast to the Coral Sea however there was more to the design than you might have thought, so let me explain this and give you a better understanding as to why we use red camouflage in our designs. If you have ever noticed how colours ch ..read more

BY JULIA SERCOMBE It’d been a while since all the spearing members of the Sercombe family had re-united so when we got together we did whatever we could to make it a big one! Antony had come home to Geraldton after moving to the East Coast and he was frothing to get out in Western waters. The typical Gero winds meant we could only get out for a couple of local dives. Antony was happy though, he’d been looking forward to shooting another West Australian Dhu fish and the dirty conditions didn’t seem to bother him and landed a 11 kg fish. The conditions improved and allowed us to dive offshore at ..read more

BY TRAVIS HOGAN To say I’m not a big fan of competitions is an understatement. I never grew up around the club scene nor did I grow up where competitions were held in such high regard and maybe this is why my views are different to others especially the “older” generation of divers. In fact after competing at the Australian Titles off Lucinda last year for the “experience” of comp diving its fair to say that I believe these types of competitions are a dying format. The fact divers are swimming off and diving by themselves and shooting as many fish as possible just isn’t my cup of tea but there ..read more
