I made some vintage style clothing again, but in a more modern fabric. In this post I’m going to show you my new pencil skirt that I sewed this week. It was so easy to sew and looks yet so elegant. I love vintage fashion, especially the feminine styles from the fourties. I like the original patterns from that time a lot, but today these kind of clothes are not suitable for everyday use. The fabrics they used back then were mostly woven, made from cotton and wool. Knitted fabrics existed already, but they were used for underwear or sports clothing. Skirts, Blouses and dresses were made out of ..read more

Fall lookbook: pleated skirt in grey wool fabric

Now autumn has arrived. The leaves are colorful, the meadows are intensively green and the weather is unstable. I love autumn: the beautiful colors in nature, the wind and of course, that I can wear skirts and boots again! Skirts of tights and boots are simply my favourite outfit combination for everyday life. That’s why I sewed  an autumn wool skirt to get myself started in the new season. This skirt is a very special sewing project: I haven’t bought any sewing supplies to make it. It’s all inherited, in some way. The fabric comes from my mother’s fabric scraps, the buttons from my grand ..read more

Bikerlook?! Leggings with faux leather insets and decorative tucks

Here is my very first post for the category „pants“. I always say „Leggings are NO pants“, but I don’t have a category „tights“ or „things I wear unter long tops and tunics“ – So they are pants for now. This pair of leggings is not one of the easiest sewing projects, although it’s made of jersey, a very easy and forgiving fabric. But it’s worth the effort! This pattern can be implemented in countless variants, fabrics and styles. My first but not last version is this „bikerlook-leggings“ with purple faux leather inlays. The pattern The pattern is called „Puzzleleggings/Bikerleggings Biggi“ a ..read more

Yesterday I was just browsing Instagram, thinking about my upcoming fall/winter sewing projects when I stumbled about these grid-like fashion sketches. They looked very interesting, especially because they had the hashtag #capsulewardrobe in it and looked pretty easy to draw. Taking a closer look I discovered that they are part of a challenge from #mybodymodel. This inspired me to do some sketching an take part in the challenge. What is mybodymodel? It’s a company which provides an app to create a fashion drawing model from your own body measurements. It’s super easy – The have a good guide on ..read more

Sewing an easy jersey dress (with cats!)

Fall has begun and now it’s time for boots and dresses again! I started my 2020 fall wardrobe with a comfortable jersey dress, because since I’m working mostly from home I’m really in need of comfortable clothes. So here is my new handmade dress in black and grey with cats: The pattern For sewing this dress I used a basic t-shirt pattern from the book „Gertie sews vintage casual“ by Gretchen Hirsch. I love that book and all the patterns in it and I can highly recommend it to anyone who is into vintage fashion and looking for some really good sewing advice. I already made this t-shirt („Swee ..read more

#Oktoberfest Dirndl

There won’t be any Oktoberfest taking place this year. Nevertheless I got out my old Dirndl from the closet and we took some funny pictures. So that’s a good occassion to show you this old sewing project of mine from 2011. Yesterday I read about a contest on handmade fashion with a „patriotic“ theme. Since the source of this contest was american, it was all about stars and stripes, cowboy hats and red-blue-white. That topic made me think about „wearing“ patriotism in my home country. I’m really not a „patriotic“ kind of person. The nativity is not an achievement, it’s just something we all are ..read more

The august’s theme from the #sewyourwardrobebasics challenge was „workwear“. For the people who can go to the office again after the corona lockdown that might be a suit or a dress, but what about the people who are working from home anyway? I was busy a lot (with working ? ) during the summer months, so I needed a simple and motivating sewing project to get started again. So the challenge’s theme from sea of teal was perfect to start with. The pattern The pattern is from the Fashion Style magazine of June 2020 (06/2020). I was looking for a wraplook jumpsuit for a long time and got really h ..read more

Lots of cats – A wrapskirt with kittens

Yay! Finally I can share some cat-content on this blog again! In Germany, it’s the hottest time of the year right now. Temperature outside is high, the sun is burning and even at night it won’t cool down. This part of summer does not need many clothes and inspired me to make this cute, easy wrapskirt. Fabric: The cats Now starting with the cat-content… I love cat-fabrics as much as cats and when I see one, I need to buy it.  Admittedly, this special fabric was an experiment. I ordered it on AliExpress directly in China. Most fabrics you can buy at the stores here are made in China. Reta ..read more

Finally the „skirt season“ started – It’s warm enough outside to wear my skirts without boots and tights again. So I pulled my black circleskirt from last year out of my closed and „upcycled“ it a little. I made this skirt last summer and wore in many times since then.
