As we’re sure you’re well aware of by now… we’re a bunch of coffee lovers here at Espresso Mushroom Co. So much so that we use the stuff to grow our DIY mushroom grow at home kits with. The last few months, actually, almost a year, has been tough on us all but our beloved baristas have been keeping the nation plodding along, one cup at a time. But it’s not been easy for our independent coffee houses either, many unfortunately have had to shut up shop. So, to say thank you and hopefully offer a helping hand, we’re giving a shout out to some of our favourite independent local coffee shop an ..read more

The Grocer names us "one of the five most innovative enterprises using food waste"

The idea of viewing a waste product as a resource that you can ‘upcycle’ to make better things from is what got us into growing oyster mushrooms on coffee grounds in the first place. There was something strangely compelling about it. The reality is that there are 70million cups of coffee served in the UK every day, so that’s a lot of waste coffee grounds – it’s a big problem, but we’re really proud to be part of the solution. That’s why we were really excited to be featured in The Grocer’s Green Issue, and be described as "one of the five ..read more

With limited supplies in supermarkets, and unlimited time to spend indoors, now’s the time to take up gardening and to start growing your own, no matter the space you have. It’s no surprise that interest in gardening has soared in recent weeks. As well as being a potential food source, many people are taking up gardening to relieve stress and to take their mind off these uncertain and challenging times. While some of us may find ourselves with more time on our hands than usual, we were looking for products which were straightforward to use, set-up and maintain, and those which would yield res ..read more

A huge thank you from the bottom of hearts. We’d like to thank all of our customers for supporting us at this extremely difficult time that we’re all going through right now. We’re not a regular profit making company, not that there’s anything wrong with that! We support and work with an organisation called Urban Mushrooms, they work with disadvantaged young people and provide them with training opportunities through mushroom cultivation. By buying from EMC, you’re supporting disadvantaged young people, saving tonnes of waste from going to landfill and helping out a local business. Ag ..read more

We’re facing some crazy times right now. Everyday we are being bombarded with pretty shocking developments on the news, and as for social media we have no idea if what we’re reading is fact or fiction. Some of us may be panicking and worried about just how much the Coronavirus is going to impact our lives, and some of us might be thinking that the measures that are being taken are unneeded. Let’s not get into a debate about that though, as I’m sure one thing we can all agree on is that the next few weeks (and possibly months!) are going to take a serious toll on our physical and mental heal ..read more

Growing for Good
Espresso Mushroom Company

It’s hard to believe that eight years ago Robbie, Jon and I started out as a group of coffee-drinking food lovers determined to bring you the best in fresh, local and sustainable produce. We were fresh out of Uni and juggling a few different jobs when we were first inspired by Gunter Pauli’s Blue Economy sustainable business concepts. Who’d have thought that eight years later we’d be running an innovative, environmentally sustainable enterprise like Espresso Mushroom Co? We quickly learnt that growing mushrooms was much harder than it sounds. Starting a business with very little cash cer ..read more
