It is wedding season. This is usually a busy time for me but I haven’t had too many wedding gigs this year. My husband, on the other hand, has a new second job working for a caterer, so he has been the busy one most weekends, mixing drinks and serving meals. I do the singing at church part-not the reception part. One of my churches is an absolutely breathtaking 19th century gothic church in the heart of the Manayunk section of Philadelphia. I am always grateful to be in that glorious space making music. St. John the Baptist Church I have done hundreds of weddings over the past 30 years. Some ..read more

I found this sweet little sillhouette portrait the other day at one of my thrift shops. I am drawn to anything paper related and silhouettes are just so special. I especially love this young woman because she has glasses. Adorable. Imagine that day in 1937. Surely, getting one’s silhouette done by “Greenberg” on the Ocean City boardwalk was a particularly special one. Whenever I find an old print or artwork behind glass, I always open it up to see if I can find out any more information on the back of the paper to help me date it or to find out where it may have come from. When I opened this o ..read more

A Room of Her Own

It is such a mess in here!! I could really use a bit more space these days! My husband is teaching virtual High School English in our bedroom, my 17 yr old is working on his Junior year in his shared bedroom and his brother is in the basement. Our 5th grader is sitting on a stool in her TINY room with a computer on her bureau and I am here in the dining room, madly working on a new project. So, not sure if you heard but there is a pretty serious Pandemic going on and therefore, the music and theatre business is…gone! I, along with so many of my fellow performing artists are out of work and tr ..read more

They say parenting little kids is “Long days, short years.” Very true. My youngest child is 10, which is still a sweet and magical age, but the exploration and wandering time I had with my kids when they were little – walking (painfully) slowly in the woods, keeping track of bugs, leaves, birds, pushing a swing over and over and over, reading the same books, is long gone, and (sometimes) I miss it. I am feeling nostalgic these days. Perhaps it is because I am still really trying to make sense of the loss last summer of my best friend, Katie. Being with her all the time while she parented her 2 ..read more

I am so excited that this Etsy Thing is going really well! https://www.etsy.com/shop/tinybirdvintagehome?ref=hdr_user_menu-shop I have been selling and shipping pretty, old, breakable things all over the country and even Australia. I shipped this 1940’s FireKing Drippings Jar to North Pole, Alaska. The address was actually Kris Kringle Drive! Last week I was walking to the post office from my car with a stack of boxes full of Jade-ite, porcelain, ceramic and other breakable things. I am sure I looked funny – a pair of legs poking out from under a precariously tall pile of packages mark ..read more

Christmas starts too darn early. Can we all agree on that? I love this time of year and I don’t want to speed through it. Autumn! It has finally come to Philadelphia with a major storm -taking all of the leaves and a lot of people’s power for a few days -ushering in crisp and chilly weather. Here is my current mantel- I am using a lot of Amber Carnival glass and brass and some Ginger Jars. I love the russet and brown and gold of this season. It’s not yet time for the glitter and shininess of Christmas. I am so busy but I know it is important for my kids (and for me) to do the d ..read more

I know I could save myself a lot of time if I stopped worrying about how my house and garden look. When we were getting ready to move last year, I had little paper doll pieces of furniture that I moved around for months on graph paper trying to make sure I got the room set up exactly right. Then there is the almost obsessive rearranging of the mantel! I have a thing with space- in my work as a choreographer, in my sporadic periods of visual art making, in my garden, how I hang art on a wall and how I arrange things all over the house. This obsesses me. The space between blues. The hei ..read more
