Quite a Month…

I used to be so scared of talking into a camera. Filming. However it really helps if someone is pointing a camera at you, just talk straight back to the ‘someone’. It gives you a pair of eyes to bounce off and connect with. That’s my advice for the month. I didn’t say I like it, but part of what I do involves talking to a camera. It may be doing an Instagram live to you lovely people, it might be filming a podcast or it might be for a TV piece. I have never got used to it. I can never remember what I said ten seconds previously, I twitch a lot and talk with my hands, and if I wear squeaky rust ..read more

Randomly Acting Kind
Neo-Walk

You may or may not know this, but today is random acts of kindness day. I don’t often buy into particular days being for a particular something, but I do particularly like this one. I think depending on who you are, where you come from and also your age, the term act of kindness can mean several things. I certainly think for someone from my generation and my age, an act of kindness can be something as simple as holding the door open or reaching something from a top shelf for me in my wheelchair – and I may mean a saucy magazine ? An act of kindness, I recently came to appreciate especially whe ..read more

Supporting and championing disabled designers is one of my happy things to do. It’s up there with cuddling puppies and drinking the perfect temperature hot chocolate. You know what I mean you chocolate officionados. London Fashion Week starts this week, and it gives me a great chance to support a close friend of Neo Walk – Victoria Jenkins of Unhidden. Our paths crossed when she held her first pop up shop in London a couple of years ago – which incidentally inspired me to have my first pop up as well. She is talented, bubbly and funny, but most of all she is so passionate about what she does ..read more

Neo Walk Effect
Neo-Walk

Many of you have spoken glowingly about the effects of using one of our gorgeous Neo Walk sticks. Lots of people leave reviews, a handful not so nice, but 99% of them talk about how they feel confident, stylish, proud and safe when they have been using one of our gorgeous sticks. This is what we work for every day here at Neo Walk. It’s our mission to destigmatise mobility aids and normalise today’s society seeing them being used among all age groups.  I have often been asked if able bodied people ever buy them for dressing up, Cos Play or even just as a joke. The answer is I don’t really ..read more

What the Ferrule is That?

At Neo Walk we believe it’s all about choice, customisation and making your walking stick reflect your personality. So you can choose colour, clear, curvy, quirky, and you can even choose the colour of the rubber tip that goes on the bottom. Let’s call it a ferrule. That’s it’s real name. Or rubber tip, anti slip grippy end. Whatever you call it, they are important as they give you grip and help prevent slipping. It’s important you change it when the tread becomes worn or uneven. It’s a good idea to check it a few times a year. So here are all the different colours of ferrules you can choose fr ..read more

Take one tip, take all or take none, or share your tips with us.  Get Things Done Big or small. All achievements count. Take the little wins each day, they all add up to giving you a great feeling.  Monitor Your Progress  Check in on how you’re doing to motivate yourself. Give yourself a pat on the back often. Then rub it better. Goals are good, but make them achievable, small b ..read more

Normal or Not.

We recently attended the Naidex Exhibition 2022 in Birmingham, and what a fantastic time we had. We had the privilege of meeting so many Neo Walkers walking proudly with their gorgeous acrylic walking sticks. A joy to see. They stood out from everyone else. They wore a smile. They held their heads high. They were proud. Consider this. There is so much guilt, shame and stigma surrounding using mobility aids today. I think this is felt acutely by the younger generation of disabled people coming through. The reluctancy to use them even when they should is a repetitive story we hear. They are reli ..read more

Tales of a Small Business Entrepreneur.

I recently said to someone I wasn’t born a designer, but after I said it, I had to stop and think if that was true. Maybe I was. Maybe all those junior years on the plasticine and crayons were my training ground, and the years of being a make do and mend mum were really my dream it/make it masterclass. I was always very handy, making and creating at home and at the kid’s school. I was the go to gal for what you could do with sticky back plastic, a staple gun and yoghurt cartons. I absolutely loved it. Anyway, that aside, I am fairly certain I wasn’t born an entrepreneur. I never had my ..read more

Let’s Become Neo Talkers

I had the best week last week. What happened you may well ask. Did I pick the winning lucky lottery numbers? Nope. Did I unearth hidden antiques in the loft among the Xmas decorations and the cobwebs? Nope. Did an ancestry search reveal I am actually descended from royalty and not sheep rustlers like I thought? Nope. The best week brought me my friends. Friends I had made but never met. Friends, nonetheless, that as soon as I met, I felt I had known them for years. If anyone ever said to me that social media is shallow and pointless, I would argue with them every day of the week that it has a ..read more

Secrets of the Dragons’ Den.

I have secrets. I have secrets you would love to know. I know some secrets of Dragons’ Den I can’t tell, but I am ready to tell some others! I never knew anyone that had been in the Den before I did it, so although I had seen the programme, I didn’t know what to expect from actually being there. My stomach turned every time I thought about it. Let me whizz you all back to 8 years ago when Dragons’ Den actually called me to ask if I wanted to go on the show! Naturally I thought it was a prank call, but then went on to discover they are always looking for interesting business owners and products ..read more
