Well, it is official! As of December, 23, 2020, Ham-Com is no more. Yesterday, the president of Ham-Com, inc posted this on the ham-com website: It is with a heavy heart that I write this letter about the future of Ham-Com. After 41 years, Ham-Com has decided to close its doors in lieu of the restrictions in place for COVID-19 and the rising costs of putting on a show. The decision was not made lightly, but the safety and wellness of our volunteers, vendors, clubs, presenters, and attendees is our paramount concern. We sincerely thank each and every person for their support over the past years ..read more

Recently, my wife and I started to ride bike with our kids. We wanted to have something that we could do to help get our kids out of the house and get some exercise. When we first got our bikes, I had a 2012, or maybe it was a 2014, Kia Forte and my wife had a Dodge minivan. Of course, my car couldn’t carry the bikes, so we had to use my wifes minivan to carry them.  Unfortunately, we had to put all the seats down in order to put all the bikes in, which meant that we had to take two vehicles to wherever we went to ride bikes. After a couple trips to ride bikes and the... Read moreI Got A ..read more

$50 Application Fee To Get your Ham License? Really FCC?!?!?
Everything Ham Radio

The FCC has issued a new proposal to start charging $50 for every application put forth to the FCC. That means that anytime you get your license, upgrade your license, or renew your license you will have to pay a $50 fee!! To go from no license to an Amateur Extra class license, it will cost you $150, unless you take all three tests in one sitting. This, I feel, is a major deterrent to anyone trying to get in the hobby, especially you people or those that live on a tight budget. One of the things that are always a pain when it comes to running a club is all the different places that you have to keep information about the club. You have a club roster on an Excel spreadsheet, a list of all the equipment that the club owns on another sheet, attendance records on another sheet, and all your finances in a program like Quicken or just a check register. This, to me, screams inefficient! Unfortunately, there are very few options out there when it comes to club management. I recently found a website that might change all this. It is called Ham Club Online! You can find it at H ..read more

https://youtu.be/1G3sIitVrb0 COVID-19 has changed a lot about the world that we knew last year! The governments have limited the number of people that are allowed inside of businesses, disallowed any social gatherings over a handful of people, “requiring” people to wear masks and so much more. COVID-19 has affected ham radio. We can’t have meetings anymore, testing sessions are severely limited and of course, no hamfests! The QSO Today Podcast has done something that I really wish I could’ve done myself, they have started a virtual hamfest! The first one is coming up on August 8 & 9, 2020 ..read more
