A weekend stay at Summerhill

We’ve just returned home after a wonderful mini break in Stilbaai, staying in a beautiful beach house overlooking the ocean and surrounded by nothing but coast and fynbos. With vast sliding doors that opened up onto a wrap-around deck, this slice of heaven left us all feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. A short walk down the hilltop led to our own private beach area with immaculate sands. Sure, we did meet a lot of bluebottles, but it didn’t stop us from carving out a “safe” pathway to the sea and chasing the waves. There wasn’t another soul in sight, and the only sounds were the waves breaking ..read more

Rebuilding the world with LEGO®

We’re joining LEGO® to encourage and celebrate the incredible imaginations of our children in the Creativity can Rebuild the World Campaign. Innovation and creative problem solving starts from a young age and is something that, as parents, we should be nurturing and encouraging. I only need to look at the fierce tenacity of Cece to know that great things can be done when you put enough thought and perseverance into it…a lot of sass can also be achieved this way too ! I grew up with LEGO®, and alongside my late brother, we would create various worlds in which to pour our imagination. He would ..read more

10 of my favorite nature & outdoor photos
Rose and Thorns

Being outdoors in nature is so inspiring. In the words of Byron: “There is pleasure in the pathless woods. There is rapture on the lonely shore. There is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea and music in its roar. I love not man the less, but Nature more.” I miss, deeply, wandering around England, camera in hand, ready to have my breath stolen by nature’s beauty. Walking down old streets, around walled gardens, and through country estates has given me so many beautiful moments to capture. With difficulty, I have chosen some of my favourite photos from my last trip to the UK. The imag ..read more

8 South African Photographers you should follow

When I first began my journey in photography there was no one really around that I could connect with to talk about my growing passion. It was just me and my incredibly supportive husband (I mean, do I even need more!?) I had a few accounts that I was following on Facebook for inspiration, but there wasn’t much of a community feel. It was only through putting myself out there on my blog and Instagram, through a styled shoot with a fellow creative, that I began to feel a sense of “belonging”, of being able to step into a space that only I could fill. I now feel, largely through Instagram, conne ..read more

Easter activities for kids + FREE printables

Easter is just around the corner and this year I am really putting in the effort to make it a memorable weekend for the kids. Last year, the beginning of lockdown, was effectively a write-off, but I’ve put together two great Easter activities which I know the kids will enjoy. The best bit, there’s no mess involved. You simply just need a printer, a pair of scissors, marker pens, some chocolate eggs and some prestick. I used my EcoTank L7160 printer for these crafts – This A4 cartridge-free printer is a photo-printing beast, giving you up to three years’ worth of ink which, ultimately, saves y ..read more

Does your life need an Epson EcoTank? Do you often print in colour? Do you print daily, sometimes a multitude of sheets at a time? Is your business image-based? Do you find changing ink cartridges to be an expensive and tedious task? Does the ink in your current printer run out often? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this could be the printer for you! And I don’t mean to sound like a QVC sales woman either! It’s been almost 6 months with our Epson EcoTank …and I can’t imagine our printing life without it – from the everyday home-schooling projects to high-end photo printing, I ..read more

Al fresco family fun at Tryn Restaurant at Steenberg
Rose and Thorns
by Shante Hutton

Over the weekend we were invited to Steenberg to try the new Al Fresco Boxes from their signature restaurant Tryn. In previous years this wouldn’t be such a big deal, but with Covid and social distancing, all interactions outside of the safe space that is home feel almost “naughty”. Perhaps that’s silly to even say, but we put a lot of thought into all the locations we go to and I was sold on this visit because a) Steenberg MCC is my husband’s fave and b) the Al Fresco boxes get served on the lawn away from people. WIN. We chose a beautiful, slightly blustery day, and with blankets in tow (the ..read more

The WWF Southern African Sustainable Seafood Initiative (SASSI) programme is a vital part of the food landscape of South Africa as it works towards building knowledge and understanding of the complex task of sustainably sourcing seafood from our surrounding oceans and water sources.
