Foodie fortnight has returned and this year I am so incredibly excited to say that I am an ARW Ambassador!! Being an Ambassador means that Aberdeen Inspired will very kindly choose a restaurant for me to review on a gifted basis in return for my honest reviews and awareness of the fortnight. What is Aberdeen Restaurant Week? Aberdeen Restaurant Week is hosted by Aberdeen Inspired who aim to attract, sustain and boost investment into the City Centre. ARW in the most basic sense is 2 weeks where many Aberdeen Restuarants host exclusive menu’s from as little as £10. It allows you to go in and try ..read more

Holly Da Silva

Duri i banchi! In September, Stephen and I took our yearly trip down to Plymouth to see my Grandparents. This trip however was a little different – we took an incredibly spontaneous trip over to VENICE! We booked it about 2 weeks before we were due to fly and it was just too good an opportunity to miss out on. Travel and Accommodation Before I get into the ‘What we did’ portion, I’ll quickly chat about our travel and accommodation / what it cost etc! As I mentioned, we were staying in Plymouth with my Grandparents, so we had a couple of places to choose when it came to Airport. Our most cost-e ..read more

FINE DINING DELIGHTS | FLETCHERS

Each year when wee visit Plymouth, we choose one night to have a ‘fancy’ meal out on the town.  It’s usually in our last few days as an end of holiday treat and it also pushes us to try somewhere new that Aberdeen doesn’t have. On this years’ trip we were recommended to go to Fletchers.  Fletchers is a family run, fine-dining restaurant located at the back of Theatre Royal.  We were sat in the ‘conservatory’ part of the restaurant which was much warmer than I had expected going in.  It was romantically lit, and we were pleasantly welcomed on arrival.  Had we read the ..read more

AFTERNOON TEA | THE DOWANS HOTEL

Is there anything quite like an afternoon tea? As someone who gets major food fomo, afternoon tea is perfect because you can have a little bite of everything! Stephen took his dad to a Glenfiddich Whisky Tour and so his mum and I decided to find somewhere out that way to enjoy a girly afternoon tea. After a quick google search, I found The Dowans Hotel in Aberlour. THE DOWANS HOTEL The Dowans Hotel is a family run hotel based in the heart of Speyside. The four-star hotel opened its doors in December 2012. The hotel hosts 16 en-suite rooms, an a la carte restaurant, Restuarant 57 (where the af ..read more

I don’t know what it is but recently I have been truly rating a Sunday Roast! For a few months now I’ve been hearing great things about Duncano’s and at last I’ve gone to check it out. ABOUT DUNCANO’S Duncano’s is a bar and bistro that opened up in December 2021, in place of the Key West Pub at the back of the Westhill Retail Park. It’s somewhat tucked away making it a real hidden gem. Duncano’s is open Wednesday to Sunday for relaxed Lunches, Afternoon Tea, Sunday Roast and Small Plates in the evening. Whether it’s meeting over a brew, bonding over bubbles, or feasting and flirting, we can’t ..read more

BLISSFUL BURGERS | GOURMET BURGER KITCHEN

The neon yellow sign was calling my name on this one! Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) has 36 restuarants across the UK – unfortunately Aberdeen is not one of those –  So we visited one of the two Bristol stores whilst on holiday. Stephen quickly gravitated towards the specialty Korean BBQ Chicken Burger. This consisted of buttermilk chicken thigh in a new GBK seasoning served with kimchi coleslaw and Korean BBQ sauce all in a soft and sesame topped bun. He let me have a bite and it was delicious! Honestly if he hadn’t ordered it, I definitely would have. I decided to go for the Loaded Beef ..read more

ABOUT NEWBURGH INN Newburgh Inn has had a few owners over the past few years, but none have stuck quite as well as their current owners: Chrissy and Mark. Since the new ownership in 2022, the pub had had a complete overhaul in its atmosphere! The place is actually busy these days and they are continually making their menu bigger and better. One evening Stephen and I decided to take our friends Chris and Kerry down to the local and show then what the fuss was about! MAINS Food wise we all opted for something different! First up, Chris went for the incredible looking Three Cheese Macaroni Bake ..read more

ABOUT ITSU Itsu has been around for over 25 years, but Aberdeen is just recently being introduced to the fast-food sushi chain.  I use the term fast-food lightly as this usually indicates cheap, unhealthy options where-as Itsu uses highly quality, healthy ingredients to create their dishes but in a fast-food style setting.  The brand has many aims other than serving delicious Asian-inspired dishes; they seek to reduce food and packaging waste, have a 40% plant-based menu (currently 38%), reduce electricity/water usage – and more! If you haven’t read about their background, I highly r ..read more

They use specially selected cuts of meat that are sourced locally to ensure the freshest taste and quality. They also marinate these meats in a unique blend of house spices before grilling over hot charcoal. Stephen opted for the GIDI BAD BOY HOT DOG – A Jumbo smoked hot dog poached in beer then charcoal grilled. Served with skinny fries, Jícama coleslaw and sauce on a toasted pretzel roll with caramelised onions. This ..read more

TURTLE BAY  Turtle Bay is a Caribbean restaurant that originated in Barbados. It first started out as a little surfside beach bar where they served fresh cocktails and bar snacks.  With around 46 UK locations and more to come Turtle Bay is a must visit restaurant!  Stephen and I visited the Plymouth store at a lunchtime and were very happy to have dropped in. With bright colours and rustic furniture, there is a really welcoming and chilled vibe. Definitely the type of place that you can dress up or down and still feel very in place.  Unfortunately, on our visit there were ..read more
