Back to make more content after a recent move and a much-appreciated vacation. What’s new, you ask? Well, a big and rather great Salesforce blog published an article I wrote about the process builder. Ever heard of Salesforceben? Of course you have! Go check it out. Cheatsheets

Just came across these cheatsheets provided by Salesforce which I think are a superb resource, and I’m a bit annoyed that I hadn’t found them earlier. These are also a really good resource for studying for certification exams. Some highlights: Approval, Process Builder, or Flow? Little rusty with Lightning Components? REST APIs make me very happy. Security settings made simple. Or check them all out here. The post Cheatsheets appeared first on sfdc.guide ..read more

Let it Flow

Q: What’s the Flow Builder? How is it different from Process Builder? As I mentioned in our previous conversation about the process builder, Salesforce gives you several options for managing workflow. To recap again for those who may not have read other posts, workflow is the term we use to refer to the automation tools Salesforce makes available, including process builder, flow builder, and approval processes. In order to keep this conversation conversational, I don’t want to discuss the flow builder in technical detail, but rather to provide an idea of what it can be used to do ..read more

Workflow Rules: Wolf or Sheep?

Q: What’s a workflow rule? I almost don’t want to write this post. I mean, I know, workflow rules are super powerful, a cornerstone of Salesforce, easy automation, yada yada yada. And yeah, one of my most popular posts/videos ever is about Time-Based Workflow Rules. But workflow rules are my nightmare. I react with visceral fear to the very mention of adding another workflow rule, or when I go to update a set of records and it fails because some workflow rule goes haywire. I’m shuddering right now thinking about it. Let’s get this over with. Wait, before we start (yes, I’m just ..read more

Last week I got the great news that I was mentioned in Mason Frank’s 30 Salesforce Bloggers to Follow! This means a lot, particularly because Mason Frank is a huge force in the Salesforce ecosystem. I first came to know of them via their Salesforce Salary Survey, which they publish annually and serves as a great resource not only to get a pulse on the industry, but to see where demand is growing geographically as well as by skillset. If you’re a professional, take the survey and provide your data point. If you’re interested in joining the industry, check out the results to learn what you m ..read more

Batchable Apex & Cuotas

Q: What’s batchable Apex code? Since we’re already on this kick of writing about the weird, wonderful, and whimsical aspects of Argentine society, today we’ll talk about cuotas. More specifically, let’s chat about paying in cuotas, and how this reminds me of how we can use batchable Apex code in those moments when we just simply can’t afford the number we see on the pricetag. One lesson we can learn from economics is that if there is a demand for a product or service, that product or service will exist. Even if I don’t have a credit card, I still may want, nay expect, access to credit ..read more

How to Practice Best Practices

Q: What’s a “best practice,” and what’s a “best practice” as applied to Salesforce development? First, a general explanation of a best practice. A best practice is a widely-accepted, agreed-upon set of steps or procedures for solving a problem. The term is used in tons of different disciplines, but particularly in the software industry where complex projects require the inputs of many contributors. Within the software industry, and within the world of Salesforce administration and development, the definition is even more narrow: a best practice refers to a rule (or a corollary to a ..read more

Multitenancy & Argentine Social Traditions

Q: What’s multitenancy? Maybe you’re already thinking please give me a metaphor which is less tired than that of “the apartment building.” You’re in luck, because I too am very tired of this metaphor. Just over two years ago, I moved to Argentina. Unfortunately, outside of Latin America, not many people have much familiarity with the culture of Argentina, which is a shame. Argentines are warm people, talkative and playful, social, natural sharers. In many ways, Argentines embody “multitenancy” — they are culturally inclined to share space and food and resources with others not just bec ..read more

Governor Limits & Table Manners

Q: What are governor limits in Salesforce? If you haven’t already, it would make sense to first read about multitenant architecture. I always conflate the word “governor” with the political position. But apparently “to govern” is a much broader concept, one which is more closely related to conduct. Basically, a government conducts a policy, and an individual governs their emotions, and Salesforce governs how we use the shared resources made available to us. Now that (as of five minutes ago) I’m all wise that “govern” is mostly the same as “conduct,” I can’t help but think of manners ..read more

APIs & Beautiful… Soup?

Q: What’s an API? API stands for Application Programming Interface. Great, we got the acronym out of the way. Not a very helpful acronym since application is such a broad term, programming is such a broad term, and interface is such a broad term. But then again, API is a broad term, a broad concept. To the most non-technical profiles, I usually explain that an API is like a plug in the wall. Just as a wall outlet allows for a relatively standardized way for you to get electricity into your vacuum, your lamp, your cellphone, an API provides a way for developers to send and recei ..read more
