Click in the image below for a link to their event / fundraising page: The event takes place on March 28, 2020 at the Canyons Village at Park City Mountain. Relocating to a New City as an Artist

Once I began selling my artwork, it took me about 3 years to gather a group of artists that I could work with as a professional. Beginning with a small gallery in NW Portland at the Everett Station Lofts, and ending with a series of monthly exhibitions in 2019, getting your art viewed and purchased consistently is a lot of work. Read blog post "The Importance of Finding Your Tribe in the Art World." It becomes easier to find exhibition space and market your art the more artists you have involved.  You basically end up supporting each other. For example, I was contacted by @cherrytreeartist ..read more

The importance of finding your tribe in the art world

In 2017 I began selling art professionally.  I started a website and began to submit to calls for artists.  I had a gallery exhibition and several group shows in office spaces and other unconventional locations in Portland, Oregon and in surrounding areas. As any professional artist knows, once you have found your medium and mode of expression, and then created a body of work ready for exhibition and sale, there is another skill that must be learned. That is the skill of marketing and self-promotion. The importance of tribe and community is key when marketing your artwork.  In 2019, I really ..read more

For those living in the downtown Portland Area, the Pearl District’s Gallery Art Walk is a staple.  During the summer months Urban Art Network hosts a Street Gallery where art enthusiasts can walk down NW 13th to view original, hand-made art made by local artists, but Portland Art Dealers Association (PADA) established the First Thursday event in 2003 when it published the First Thursday Guide with it’s core member galleries. With summer over, residents and tourists may wonder what to do on Thursday night in Portland.  Of course, there is the ongoing Nuevo Flamenco music of Trio Eclectiqu ..read more

If you think about publications in Portland that publish about art, there isn't a lot to choose from.  You will find online blogs about the performing art scene and activities in Portland, but not a lot of content about focuses specifically on the Portland art scene; artists, artworks, galleries. Oregon Artswatch is probably the biggest influencer on the city's arts and culture scene. Ashley Gifford publishes Art & About PDX, a platform that documents artists and art happenings (*1). Portland Art Dealers Association (PADA) publishes the Monthly Portland Art Guide, which showcases Portla ..read more

As a professional artist, I am always searching the internet about products that I need in order to better present my art. It's exciting when you run across someone who makes industry cross-over products and is really passionate about what they do, like I am as an artist. That's why I was excited to find this article in Professional Framing Magazine. Link HERE. Donna Erwin is a framer that won a Grand Prize award for framing a Voodoo Doughnut in LED lights.  It was a fun article to read and I'm not usually passionate about framing.  I'm passionate about art. Luckily, I was able to find m ..read more

Closure of the Arlene Enns Gallery in the Pearl

Research shows real estate prices and art sales go hand in hand (1*).  So why is the Arlene Enns Gallery closing after only a few short months of being open?  You may not have even realized the gallery was even there on NW 12th Avenue in the Pearl.     The single artist gallery representing artist Arlene Enns from Canada was opened in December by gallery owner and family member, Harold Peters, resident of the Northwest for the past 15 year.  Harold's knowledge of art sales was minimal when he opened the gallery at the end of last year.  When I met Harold the day after his initial First Thursd ..read more
