Post date:  Wed, 18/12/2019 - 16:35 Third year mechanical engineering student Maks Kozarzewski has been named in Forbes' '25 under 25' listing in Poland. He is one of just five young people listed in the 'Innovation' category for his work with the University’s student society HYPED.   The list, which was compiled by Forbes magazine and McKinsey & Company Warsaw and published in the January 2020 issue of Forbes in Poland, seeks to identify rising stars with the potential to positively "influence the development of the Polish economy and society".  25 finalists were selected from 500 nomine ..read more

Post date:  Mon, 05/08/2019 - 13:08 Our HYPED team recently travelled to Los Angeles, California to compete in the international SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition 2019 on Sunday 21 June 2019. Following months of preparation, the team and their hyperloop pod protoype ‘The Flying Podsman’ journeyed over 5,000 miles to SpaceX’s headquarters in Hawthorne to compete alongside 20 of the best hyperloop teams in the world. HypED reaches the final round of SpaceX Hyperloop Competition

The Hyperloop society at the University of Edinburgh, HypED, was recently selected to build a prototype for the global finals of SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition, which will take place in late August at SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, California. The HypED team went through multiple rounds, submitting preliminary design briefing in Autumn 2016 (30 page document), final design briefing at the end of February 2017 (120+ page document) and presenting the design to SpaceX engineers this March. Hyped are proud to announce they have been awarded funds from Innovation Initiative Grant, as well as a cash award, providing a modest, but comfortable budget to continue their research, development and testing. The group are keen to welcome new people and fresh ideas from mechanical, electrical and civil engineering as well as those who would be keen to help with outreach and marketing. Last month the HYPED - a group of 30 students from both School of Engineering and Edinburgh College of Art - went to College Station, Texas, to compete in the Hyperloop Pod Competition organised by SpaceX and came back with the Subsystem Technical Excellence Award. The need for a new mode of transportation occurred to Elon Musk – CEO of PayPal, Tesla and SpaceX - when he was stuck in traffic between San Francisco and Los Angeles in 2013.
