Evertons’ failure to convert chances into goals cost them dearly as poor challenges on Garnacho by both James Tarkowski and Ben Godfrey gifted the home side two first half penalties, converted by Fernandes and Rashford. As an Evertonian born and bred in Salford, for me there is no better place to record an away victory than Old Trafford however, particularly since the inception of the Premier League, it has been a very unhappy hunting ground for Blues of our persuasion. The Manchester club have stuttered throughout the season, at times looking like they could again become a serious force to b ..read more

Tomas Soucek struck a hammer (pardon the pun) blow to the hearts of Everton and their supporters with an injury time winner and Alvarez added an insurance third to complete another miserable home afternoon for Everton. Kurt Zouma had seen his header cancel out the opener from Beto who’d seen a first half penalty saved by Areola, before redeeming himself with a second half header that the Blues failed to capitalise upon. Having had the unjust ten-point deduction reduced to six on appeal, Everton went into the game against West Ham two places above the bottom three but, still needing to pr ..read more

Everton’s punishment for breaching Premier League financial rules has been reduced from 10 points to six after an appeal. As a result, Sean Dyche’s side move up to 15th, five points clear of the relegation zone. English top-flight clubs are permitted to lose £105m over three years, and an independent commission found Everton’s losses to 2021-22 amounted to £124.5m. The punishment was the biggest sporting sanction in the competition’s history. A Premier League statement said: “Everton FC appealed the sanction imposed against it on nine grounds, each of which related to the sanction rather than ..read more

A late strike from Jarrad Branthwaite looked to have earned Everton a valuable three points on the road but after Gilmour was given a straight red for a bad challenge on Amadou Onana, the home side rallied and dominated the remaining time to earn a point with a Lewis Dunk header deep into added-on time. This corresponding fixture last season produced one of the biggest upsets in many a year as the Blues travelled to the Amex as sacrificial lambs for the high-flying Brighton to feast upon… Sean Dyche and the Goodison whipping boys though had other ideas and right from the outset gave the Seagu ..read more

Sean Dyche spoke to the media on Thursday afternoon ahead of Saturday’s Premier League encounter at Brighton & Hove Albion, and responded to questions about Everton’s appeal against a 10-point penalty for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules, plus Everton’s potential 777 takeover. On whether there is any update: “We haven’t got a clue [on the appeal], or I certainly haven’t at the moment. The guidelines that you suggest are that [we will hear] some time by the end of the month and we will just have to wait and see. On the impact the appeal process is having on his players: “It w ..read more

A late header from Amadou Onana from a Dwight McNeil corner rescued a point from a game that in all truth, Everton never really looked like winning. The point earned lifted the Blues over Luton on goal difference but, they will have to play a lot better in the remaining fixtures. Monday evenings clash with Crystal Palace was billed as a must-win game for both club: for Everton, a win would lift them ahead of Luton in the table and out of the bottom three; a draw or a win for Palace would see them leapfrog up at least one, possibly two places in the Premier League table. Everton were pleased t ..read more

In the ebb and flow of a fixture list the keen supporter is always looking for the opportunity to knock a few together, go on a run, get some momentum going. Couple with it a cup run, dream of Wembley, score a few famous nights, make it a season to remember, lads. Then there’s the non keen supporter who has to endure his team in a three season state of footballing purgatory while they lament every weekend with the existential pain and anxiety it will bring. Those fans – and for that read “Evertonians” – aren’t looking at any fixture list for runs, they are looking for points. It can be one or ..read more

Two goals from just three shots on target saw Manchester City climb to top spot but, this was not the walk in the park many expected as Everton defended superbly throughout and were somewhat unfortunate to succumb to two late strikes from Haaland. Everton travelled to the Etihad Stadium with absolutely nobody other than dyed in the wool Evertonians expecting anything other than what absentee owner Farhad Moshiri would refer to as an ‘expected defeat’ against a City side and squad overloaded with talent and goalscoring threats. City are right back in the race for the Premier League title havin ..read more

Two sublime first half finishes by former Blues favourite Richarlison weren’t enough to secure three points as a dogged display by Everton saw them twice come from behind with the point saving goal from Jarrad Branthwaite coming deep into added-on time. Tuesday’s draw at Fulham coupled with Luton’s victory over Brighton saw Everton drop into the bottom three, so this lunchtime kick off against Spurs took on extra emphasis and pressure to get a positive result. Spurs are the only side to have scored in every Premier League game they’ve played this season whilst Everton have recorded the most c ..read more
