When asked to describe The Future Digital Energy System in only two words, I instantly say decarbonized and decentralized.
Decarbonization perfectly expresses the physical aspects of energy systems of tomorrow, which rely on a selection of technologies that minimize any excess carbon atoms emitted into the atmosphere.
Decentralization, on the other hand, is a great synopsis of all transitions that need to happen at the information technology and communication level. It is implausible to have a factual energy transition without decarbonization and decentralization as a center of gra ..read more

Having in mind different Energy Transition scenarios mentioned in my last article, society, business, and legislation have a hurdle how to properly assess its contribution to our end goal, which is saving the planet. A common denominator for Energy Efficiency, Decarbonization, and Decentralization is their impact on emissions. So, let’s have a better look at what are emissions and if they can be the main qualifier and quantifier of the success of Energy Transition.
Greenhouse gases
Let’s start with some academics — What do we understand under emissions or to be more specific greenhouse ga ..read more

Energy Transition is no longer one of the possibilities for the industry. With the latest research and acceleration of the legislation, it is the only path for sustainable development. A major constrain is available time. We have just realized that we have reduced our deadline by at least 10 years.
In my last article called How Future Digital Energy Systems can help with cutting climate change? – Energy and Renewables (yokogawa.com) I have defined energy transition as the main driver of creating future digital energy systems. Let me dive deeper into the topic of Energy Transition and exp ..read more

Energy Transition Business Leader with a Passion for Innovation, Sustainability and Business Development
Do we, as industry and society, have enough tools and motivation to stop global warming? Let’s see how and what ought to be done if we really want to save our planet. Having in mind available and future technologies, frameworks, legislation, and people, we need to look for new structures of cooperation.
For the time being, let’s call these structures — Future Digital Energy Systems. Probably we will find much better naming in coming years, but for now, it quite precisely describes expectati ..read more

Artificial intelligence (AI) empowers the Sushi Sensor
You might have heard a lot about Artificial Intelligence (AI). How does artificial intelligence look like in practice? Is your plant industry 4.0 ready? Withstand the harsh conditions vs. remote work
For those who develop technology solutions for oil and gas, visiting an oilfield, seeing and feeling the real problems on site is part of the business. No pain no gain, you have to be there. Feel the extreme cold or heat, the wind, the dust, or the long hours in a truck to find out the conditions in which our product or solution is in. Empathize with what the client lives day to day, understand their points of view by living them. The operators, the maintenance crews, the warehouses, the project teams, the drilling towers, the well intervention te ..read more

Were any trends for 2020 put on hold due to the pandemic?
At least one that has been temporarily on hold is described in Yokogawa’s “Five Key Innovation Concepts to Impact Frontline Engineers in 2020.”
The idea behind “Holistic real-time actions through accessorizing” was that digital twin insights streamed in real-time to wearable accessories on frontline staff would better equip operators to make more holistic decisions.
However, the pandemic disrupted progress in this area as such as factory acceptance testing. In the coming year, refinements in AR accessories made during 2020 will better e ..read more

My small modular project
For many of us, 2022 was a challenging year due to high inflation. The sudden steep increase in energy prices surprised us all and heightened our awareness that Europe is too dependent on fossil fuels such as oil and gas. Therefore, postponing energy transformation to replace fossil fuels with green energy is no longer an option.
Home energy consumption had been on my radar for a while. Two years ago, I invested in 14 solar panels good for 4 MWh of annual energy, reducing my electricity bill by 1.000 euros per year. So far, so good; however, what I didn’t foresee was t ..read more
