A Pom by any other name…

I’m not a big fan of tiny dogs. I get the appeal of having a cat-sized dog from a practical perspective. They are apartment sized and their poops are smaller. A few are cute, though. Like Pomeranians. Their floof makes up for all the yapping. I guess. You better be as fluffy as you look. So I think someone who loved their dog(let) very much tried to paint a portrait of him/her/it. Oh dear. “I eat nightmares!” Ok, I’ll give it an A effort and love, and a B-minus for execution. Which is what I think this creature wants to do to me ..read more

So now that some of you are still under stay at home orders (sorry guys), being able to be physically fit while at home might be important to you. Or maybe it’s having a stable ice cream supply, I don’t know. But if you were looking to get fit in 1988, this was the machine for you: The ORIGINAL NordicTrack! I hope you enjoy the original commercial ..read more

YOU GUYS. I don’t know about you, but this pandemic-o-rama has got me super fatigued. I’m being responsible by wearing a mask and gloves while thrifting. Still, it’s mentally and emotionally draining to be on high alert for such a long time. And so this mug spoke to me. This mug gets me. I don’t know if you need the reminder that you’re not the only one feeling emotionally dehydrated right now. But we’re going to get through this. Even when we can’t “adult” today ..read more

Bad news everybody. I forgot to put all my kids through physical training during their first fifteen months of life. If only I’d had this book: Where was this book when I was a new mom?! Actually, it was probably already here. It looks pretty old. They seem to have turned out okay anyway though. Go figure ..read more

Only someone with a love of chaos and a pure hatred of parents would create this. Travel LiteBrite. Ok, this will be a divisive statement, but I hate the LiteBrite. The pegs never fit right, they get lost everywhere and the bulb was hotter than heck (at least when I was a kid). So someone decided that you should be able to lose plastic pegs not just at home, but ON THE GO. Cars! Hotels! Restaurants! Did not purchase ..read more

I love quilts. I especially love vintage and antique quilts. So imagine how excited I was to find a depression era quilt for $2. Excuse the clutter. I don’t have a very large open space to lay this out on. This quilt had sat folded for a long time, was faded by the sun on some areas, and the trim was ratty and falling apart. So much work has gone into this quilt. Look at the stitching. So much detail. I had to save it! Best practices for quilt restoration include only adding onto the existing quilt, never cutting into it or removing pieces. Whatever you do should be able to be undone if necess ..read more

I love thrift store mugs. There are almost always a few that are unique. Here’s a few I found before The ‘Rona. A Southern jem, y’all. Vintage Maytag. A long time ago, people used to fix appliances. The Maytag repairman was always bored, because Maytag appliances never needed to be repaired. This is a bit of a cheeky message, but I think it’s pretty funny. tee hee hee!Um, I don’t think this Bible quote is correct. Here’s a good one to close with: Because it’s the last photo. Hope you liked the mug shots ..read more

Sometimes you find a story at the thrift store. A glimpse into the life of a stranger. In this case, a stranger named Michael who worked at Kellogg’s. Exhibit #A: a signed print of Tony the Tiger. Michael is GRRReat! Exhibit #B: an unused Kellogg’s pullover. Exhibit #C: an award for an excellent 1st Quarter. The first quarter of the year was GRRReat! Conclusion? A guy named Michael worked for Kellogg’s, didn’t get that excited about Tony’s autograph, never bothered to wear the company pullover, but did a grrreat job at helping the team meet their Q1 goals. Grrreat job, Michael ..read more

I was touring one of our thrift stores in town, and came across this unique sculpture. If Rodin had a sense of humour. I texted Husbandman. “Isn’t this funny?” He texted back “I need this!” Turns out he’d been thinking of encouraging his team with a rotating award, and this was a perfect fit. Of course, now we’re under lockdown, so he has to just hold it up and “virtually present” the award over Zoom. So for now, it’s hanging out on our living room as an objet d’art. Kinda fits our aesthetic. A big thumbs up to you all too ..read more

Here’s a compilation of original art I came across in thrift stores before The ‘Rona. Still life: Vase and Red Pear. Owl: a portrait of skepticism. Squirrels! Happy Frosted Trees. Finally, a sketch that I think it supposed to be Faith Hill, but looks unnervingly like a woman I used to work with. I know it’s not quite the same as a trip to an art gallery, but I hope you enjoyed this thrifted art tour ..read more
