Hey, Valkyries Welcome back to the Weekly Raven! How’s January going for you? As a reminder, each week we’re inviting you into the Halls of Valhalla for a taste of what we’re watching, listening to, and reading. It’s our way of passing on whatever stories are haunting us, no matter the medium. But we’d also love to hear of your hauntings as well. Grab a cuppa, a snuggly blanket, and let’s chat Alexi's Week ? It’s been a long time, but I’ve recently gotten back into Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. If you didn’t know this about me, I love comedy outside of Science Fiction. Unfortun ..read more

Things We Want to Embrace In 2023
Bookish Valhalla
by Ari Augustine

? Listen to Post We’ve finally arrived in 2023 with everything intact. Well, mostly. There might be a few scratches, dings, and dents. Nothing a bit of whiskey self-love won’t fix, though. Last year was a chaotic hot mess (seriously, who did the universe let into the kitchen?). Life kept shifting beneath our feet, and we remain unconvinced this year won’t be the same. After all, where there are humans, there are problems. Changes and unexpected twists. That’s just inevitable. Still, we remain hopeful that not all of 2023 will be madness and mayhem. Every year, we talk about the things we wi ..read more

In fact, we’re dying to hear from you Because this community would be nothing without all of y ..read more

Book Series I Want to Read In 2023 | Top Ten Tuesday #5
Bookish Valhalla
by Ari Augustine
2M ago
Good afternoon, Valkyries. It’s Tuesday. Again. And almost the middle of the month. Where on earth is November going?! Just a fair warning: I’m a smidge sick today. My husband gave me whatever freak throat-tickle he had the other day. I’m reporting to you guys (and work) from beneath a cascade of blankets and surrounded by an enemy of lozenge wrappers. So, please forgive the short and sweetness of this week’s Top Ten Tuesday post.  This week’s topic = book series I want to start in 2023. Yes, I tweaked it a bit from the original. Come fight me. Top Ten Tuesday was originally created ..read more

Why I’m Breaking Up With Book Arcs In 2023
Bookish Valhalla
by Ari Augustine
3M ago
All year long, I debated writing this post because I wasn’t sure of my decision yet. I didn’t want to come across as someone ungrateful for the hundreds of ARC opportunities I’d been given. I didn’t want this decision to be clouded by memories or emotions, good and bad. I didn’t want it to be an impulsive act I’d later regret.  If I’m breaking up with ARCs, it should be a neutral and reflective moment. Not a colorful f*ck you to all the ways I feel let down by every level of publishing. Despite negative experiences, I still loved supporting authors  and publishers. I enjoyed bondin ..read more

Still, I am willing Winter into existence over here feel free to send me all your crisp air and snow. Book Settings I’d Love To Visit | Top Ten Tuesday #3
Bookish Valhalla
by Ari Augustine
6M ago
Hey there, Valkyries! Welcome back to Bookish Valhalla for another Top Ten Tuesday post. This week’s topic is all about the book settings I’d love to visit. To be honest, though, I read a ton of dark fiction and space horror, so I’m not sure if I’d *really* want to take a vacation to one of those worlds. So, let’s pretend a brief visitation won’t kill me, shall we? Top Ten Tuesday was originally created in June 2010 by The Broke and the Bookish. In January 2018, it was transferred to That Artsy Reader Girl. At its heart, TTT was born out of a desire to bring readers together and a shared l ..read more

I’m 33 Today | Birthday Book Tag
Bookish Valhalla
by Ari Augustine

Hello everyone! In case the title isn’t a dead giveaway, it’s my birthday today. I’m 33 years old, and I’m kind of loving it. I finally feel like I’m becoming the person I’m supposed to be—a grueling, but lovely journey. It’s also one of my best friends’ birthday as well (Happy Cake Day, Amanda!). So, it’s an extra special time of shared celebrations & quiet reflections. To celebrate this year, I thought I’d do the Birthday Book Tag. I don’t normally do these, but I wanted to share my day with all you lovely bookish peeps. What better way than to gush about books? Before we dive in: The ..read more

Asian Dramas I Can’t Stop Thinking About | Top Ten Tuesday #2
Bookish Valhalla

Welcome back, Valkyries! It’s another Tuesday in this Earthly grind we call life, but I hope you found something worthy to ease  the passage of time. To my surprise, this week’s TTT topic is a freebie, which means I get to talk about whatever I want. Since I’ve been diving so deeply into Chinese and Korean TV shows, that’s kind of where my heart is right now. So, I’ve decided to talk about Asian Dramas. This list is obviously not comprehensive. These are the shows that have embedded themselves under my skin, leaving me thoughtful, emotional, and eager to rewatch. And while there are so ..read more

The Small, Quiet Joys Of Disappearing
Bookish Valhalla
by Ari Augustine
7M ago
I miss disappearing. Is that such an odd thing to admit? That I miss fading away the online world and vanishing into life? That I miss going days on end without bumping into another soul? Without compulsively wondering if I should be speaking, posting, feeling, judging, sharing, or doing everything in the public eye? Without feeling utterly bound and trapped by social media, and the monsters it has created to fuel its misery machine? Disappearing (verb): the act of receding from the world; to be inaccessible by digital means; to go off grid for a time; unseen and unknown to the world; to ..read more
