I recently joined Quora, it's an interesting platform where people ask questions to a specific topic and anyone who feels like sharing their insight is welcome to give answers. I still haven't asked any questions yet but I have a few answers in topics like career, life experience, lifestyle,... I came across a question today which reminded me of one of the funniest moments I've ever had, the question read as  "Have your neighbours ever called the cops on you for something ridiculous?" A few weeks after I moved into a two bedroom flat with my daughters, I was in the kitchen making breakfast ..read more

I started taking driving lessons last month as part of my self-improvement plan, I'm trying to become a better version of who I was yesterday both in my personal and professional life. I realised how much easier life will get for me as a working parent if I drive, I'll save time on my journey to and from work. I'll become much more independent in my movements and won't have to rely on public transport. I won't have to wake up as early as I do now to get the girls ready for school and I'll stress less about making it back in time to pick them up from the school club at the end of the day. Th ..read more

"You get more interviews than most people," my former mentor told me towards the end of last year. I do get a lot of interviews compared to some candidates but what good is it to go to an interview if there isn't an offer at the end of it. Most hiring managers lose their enthusiasm once they found out I have childcare commitments, I failed the last interview I attended because I tried to negotiate my working hours. I've mentioned it before, just because I need a job doesn't mean I'm willing to work for anyone and certainly not for an organisation that doesn't show any consideration towards w ..read more

"Where are you from if you don't mind me asking, are you Carribean?" I was asked by an old Englishman in Liverpool last week when I was waiting for a coach back to Manchester. I told him I'm African but most people think I'm from the Carribean, Jamaica to be exact. He said he worked on a cruise and have been to many places, he thought he could tell people's origins just by their features but he couldn't have been more wrong with me. We laughed and chatted until the coach arrived, he told me about the places he's been to, showed me pictures of his wife and friends. In just a couple of minut ..read more

A Fun Day out in Liverpool
Trials & Tribulations

On Friday morning, the girls and I left home for Manchester City Centre where we boarded the 08:30am coach to Liverpool. It's the end of half term, I decided to take my daughters out of town for a family fun day out. Liverpool is a maritime city located in the northwest of England, its well known for Liverpool F,C and the Beatles. I visited the city twice before although I didn't stay long enough to view the scenery and visit its famous landscapes. As for my daughters, it is their first visit to the city. I thought it was both fun and educational for them to spend a day sightseeing and learn ..read more

I had a dream last night, I had had my hair in a ponytail and wore some work trousers walking through the doors of what seemed to be a skills center. I was met by a young boy who introduced himself before leading me to a phone where he gave me a number to call, the person on the other side of the line was my mentor who had a few instructions for me. "Are you giving me this assignment because you've finally recognised my skills as a gas engineer?" I asked "Don't flatter yourself, I'm sending you over only because there is no one else available at this time" he replied before hanging up. I ..read more

I turned 35 earlier this month, my twenties are long gone and my thirties almost over yet I'm nowhere near where I thought I'll be at this age. When I first came to the UK, I was young, innocent and full of dreams. I thought I was unstoppable and could do anything, I now realise how wrong and naive I was. Where did I go wrong? I can't stop questioning the decisions I've made so far. When did I take the wrong turn to end up where I am now. I don't have a stable job and I'm raising two daughters on my own in my mid-thirties. I focused so much on achieving my goals I didn't enjoy life to the ..read more

Brushing up on my Ps Skills
Trials & Tribulations

I took an interest in Photoshop when I discovered Tumblr back in 2014, gifs were all over the net and my curious mind wanted to know how they were made and more importantly who came up with the concept. I read every article I could find and watched tutorials on how to make a gif. I was so fascinated by graphics I downloaded Ps and paid a monthly fee to practice typography and make gifs of my favourites shows. Anime and video games have been part of my life since my childhood, with Ps I was able to gif scenes from shows like Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbour Totoro or classics such as A ..read more

Last month, I applied for a Customer Service Administrator position with a local Housing Association. I didn't hear from them again after I was advised by email that my application was under review. Weeks went on without any updates and I just assumed that I wasn't successful and moved on to make plans to leave the UK. Things haven't been great for me in the last months and I thought maybe it was the end of my journey here. On Wednesday, a recruitment agency got in touch with me regarding an opportunity to work as a Planning Admnistrator. They ask me to go to their office to fill in a regis ..read more
