A few years ago I spent some time in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where I first tasted Al-Baik chicken. My husband was already an Al-Baik super fan, but I had never heard of it. It was the MOST delicious fried chicken I have very had, and I don’t even like fried chicken. The month that we were there, we ate it for lunch almost every day. Yes we gained a few extra pounds, but it was definitely worth it. Once we got back, the fried chicken craving was REAL. We had popeyes.. it came no where close. We tried Fried chicken from a few other restaurants as well as Mary Browns; Nothing came close. We ..read more

Ever since my husband and I got back from our honeymoon in Spain, we have been on the search for comparable risotto. The creamy, indulgent, and savory combination had won us over from the moment it hit our tongue. Now we have found that finding risotto in the GTA is not difficult, but finding halal, or vegetarian versions does complicate matters. We have found some suitable seafood option, but the prices were OUTRAGEOUS. Who is going to be okay paying upwards of $40 for a bowl of rice and seafood?!? To be fair, risotto is considered a higher end, fancy dare I say it, dish. With our fina ..read more

It’s Natural, How Hard Could it Be? As soon as I found out I was pregnant I new that I wanted to breastfeed. The thought of breastfeeding invoked this warm and cozy feeling inside my heart, but also scared me. I was too well aware of how difficult it could be to breastfeed. All my nursing experience working with new moms showed me the dark side of this beautiful thing. I knew that it could, and probably would, be painful to begin with. I also knew the importance of a good, deep, latch. I knew that without me nourishing myself, I would not be able to nourish my child. I knew that it woul ..read more

We are now on cycle nine of TTC’ing (Trying to Conceive) for baby #2. Until cycle 6 we were trying on our own without any additional product uses. After AF (Aunt Flow) arrived at the end of cycle 6 I started looking into products I might be able to use to help speed things along. I also went to see my physician at that point to see if I needed any testing or a referral to a specialist. I know 6 months is not that long, but I there is no harm in having a conversation with your doctor. I would rather be on top of my health and fertility rather then wait it out and then find out months later we c ..read more

It was time for my six-week post partum check-up with my midwife. I was still hazy, trying to navigate through the newborn fog. The last thing on my mind was birth control. So when my midwife turned to me and asked me what I’m planning on doing for contraception.. my reaction was just a blank stare. To which she responded, “just so you are aware, breastfeeding is not reliable birth control, you cant still get pregnant.” Well duh! I know that, right?? Yeah, I know that! So now what… We’ve been given the all clear.. everything is back in working order. Am I ready for another one of these minions ..read more

As I approach my daughter second birthday, I find myself sitting here looking through all those newborn photos stashed away in my laptop. I find myself remembering my pregnancy and delivery. Thinking of everything I loved and thing I wish I could go back and change. I find myself making decision for a future pregnancy and delivery experience that isn’t even on the books yet. What is a Midwife Throughout my nursing school process, I worked in various healthcare settings, one of them being along side some amazing midwives. I began to understand the values and objectives of a more holistic ..read more

Flying with babies is something not many will recommend or encourage. Flying for the first time with a 5-month-old and choosing a destination that requires a 14+ hour flight time, probably frowned upon.  Here is our experience along with some tips and tricks that my husband and I found helpful while flying with our little girl. It was mid December when we decided to fly from Toronto to Dubai for a much-needed vacation. We were first time parents with little to no knowledge of how to fly with a baby. We flew direct from YYZ (Toronto Pearson) to Dubai International Airport. I have to say, th ..read more
