Commission a Painting
This is part of a duo painting and is of Tess they both live near Barnstaple and as a Dog Artist I took their reference photos. As we live in a village not far from Barnstaple it is not too far to travel for a visit. Photo referencing is the key element for creating a good likeness of your dog.
Buddy and Tess’s owners had been thinking about having a painting of their two dogs for a while. Sadly Tess has a few health problems, and they thought it would be a lovely idea to have some photos taken of them both.
Buddy was a true to form lively spaniel and was running around ..read more

My favourite Breed the Border Terrier
Archie
It’s great being a Dog Artist and being able to enjoy hearing all about the various breeds especially the border terrier! Of course I am biased because of our very own Border, but they do have such great personalities.
I have received quite a few commissions of the border terrier with clients looking for a dog artist. Our Binny’s painting is 5 years old now, so maybe I need to do a more recent one.
Cheeky Personalities
Terrier Dogs do have very different personalities to that of say the Labrador, and they can be especially demanding!

Gifting a Pet Portrait Painting
As an Artist I like to paint realistic Dog Painting capturing the true unique expression which you can relate to.
Jake
Jake’s portrait was gifted yesterday as a special birthday surprise. I received a lovely email message this morning telling me the reaction when the painting was opened. Tears of joy!
All the hard word put into my paintings make comments like this so rewarding.
Usually I recommend a photograph that is not facing directly at the camera, but in this instance the expression said it all! Sometimes it can be more difficult to create a 3d effect wi ..read more

Black Dog Paintings
Black dogs are definitely the most popular colour of my dog paintings.
My latest commission completed is a lovely black labrador, her name is Pip. Pip’s owners live around an hour or so drive, so I was able to meet her in person. Pip is shy and doesn’t like too much fuss and prefers to be in her home environment.
Pet Portrait Artist Locally

Dog Artist
Sorry if you are looking for a Dog Artist to ship abroad I am currently only posting in the UK. With the border control and restrictions I find it too stressful! After having a couple of my paintings opened and not put back together as well, it is not worth the stress for me.
My latest commission completed is a lovely black labrador, her name is Pip. Pip’s owners live around an hour or so drive, so I was able to meet her in person. Getting on a bit in year, she doesn’t like too much fuss and prefers to be in her home environment.

Apricot Coloured Cockapoo Jake
Jake is such a lovely colouring and he is so gentle. Although he can definitely stick up for himself if he needs to! Probably vocally, not physically. He loves attention lying on his back for tummy rubs.

Dog Portrait Artist
Ozzie’s dog portrait painting I did a few months ago and this is to show you as an artist his cheeky expression. Apparently he often holds his ears in this way and looks sorry for himself! It always amazes me the many difficult expressions a dog can give you. They really do not need to able to speak, all they need is that “look”.
Although I have titled myself as a Dog Portrait Artist, I do paint other animals. However dogs are by far the most popular animal. We know why don’t we, being such great companions and it gives us a good excuse to exercise too!
Black animals can b ..read more
