A "Make-It-Happen" Kind of Leadership!

Thankfully, substantial reforms are systematically gaining grounds as Africans see a nascent democracy becoming rooted across the continent - giving birth to phenomenal and for some, regrettably sore revolutions like the Arab Spring in Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt. While I do not at all subscribe to violence as a means of getting one's voice heard, these citizens knew they could not stand on the sidelines and wait for change to happen. That said, it can be hard for citizens living under growing economic and psychological stress to be stewards of the future. Thus, we have got to help sanitize the ..read more

The Big 3: Tackling Electricity Drawbacks, Agricultural Growth Potential & Hardcore Unemployment.

It's puzzling enough that the annual consumption of electricity in Sub-Saharan Africa is 518 KWh - the same amount of power consumed by an individual in an Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) country in 25 days. An example is the U.S. According to the UN, "one in three Africans has access to electricity, and those with power access typically pay up to seven times more than consumers in developed countries." Ironically, Africa has very rich sources of renewable energy, most of which are yet to be tapped. How about the massive growth potential Agriculture holds in Africa ..read more

The Optimistic Uprising

Sometime in April 2016, I was browsing through the website of the Financial Times Newspaper - inspired by several topical issues centered on Africa. And then, for some reason, I stumbled on the article by David Pillings titled "Africa: Between Hope and Despair." A very intriguing read, I must confess, but if you must know, I wasn't at ease with the tone of the article as it reverberated that exasperating sense of faithlessness, cynicism, and disparagement in the capacity of the African continent to produce significant growth. But I sincerely can't blame him for his views. As they say, "What go ..read more

We need new reforms and mental models that will drive revolutionary development in education and skills acquisition, healthcare, broad-based infrastructure, regional trade and integration, entrepreneurship, efficient diversification programs; you name it. We need not only to be talking about the need to industrialize, we've to expedite our efforts in this regard and promptly embark on it considering the looming Fourth Industrial Revolution that draws near daily. Countries like Mauritius and Cote D'Ivoire that are succeeding in this endeavor characteristically have a sound political leadership ..read more

WHAT DOES LEADERSHIP MEAN TO YOU IN SIMPLE TERMS? PLEASE SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS IN THE COMMENT SECTION! #LeadershipGoneViral #CK As for me...Hmm...Leadership... Our real worth should not depend on our ego, but on our qualitative and productive contribution to society. #CK WHAT LEADERSHIP IS NOT It does NOT mean having an "entitlement-mentality" AS THOUGH those you ought to be busy serving OWE YOU SOMETHING. A true leader doesn't seek to be served. Rather, he serves with gladness of heart NOT expecting ANYTHING in return. Leadership??? Hmm... It does NOT mean taking undue advantage of those you s ..read more

Student-Centered Coaching in Naija!

This is grounded in a simple but powerful premise: school-based coaching can be designed to directly impact student learning. When the focus is shifted from "fixing" teachers to collaborating with them in designing instruction that targets student achievement, coaching becomes both more respectful and results-based. So, I'm thinking... Student-centered coaching introduces a new way of delivering instructional coaching that puts the needs of students’ front-and-center. By focusing coaching on goals for student learning, rather than on fixing teachers, an instructional coach can directly impact ..read more

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. ― Margaret Mead Africa is on the move, no doubt. But there are hard questions we must ask. Why have African leaders been unable to bring about inclusiveness in historically highly exclusive environments taking cognizance of the fact that this is a vital step for stability and solid growth? To what extent really is the African continent appropriately positioned for a decisive and tenacious obliteration of the discrepancies on its growth trajectory while creating jobs ..read more
