Merino Wool – A Basic Love Affair
The Green Edition

DiscountCodeAtTheBottomI’ve often thought Merino wool is the best fabric for basics. Some of my favourite Merino base layers have lasted for years. And they look the same as the day I bought them. A plus point is the lack of washing they need. Usually, an air out is enough, a flap before folding. Otherwise, I wash on the wool setting. My washing machine is horrendous, and the Merino still comes out perfect. The lasting benefit outweighs any environmental factors for me. The clothes can last for decades whereas cotton for example just doesn’t cut it after a few years of daily wear. In terms of ..read more

A Silk Scarf, Furoshiki and Sustainable Tights
The Green Edition

Plus a bedding update!  I currently have 193 pints on Pinterest for ‘How to style a scarf.’ It’s the easiest way to update an outfit without buying too much. I’ve always worn it tight around the neck but recently tried it looser and love how it looks. It adds something new for the autumn season, a bit more warmth when it’s colder without the whole hog woolly scarf. I’m wearing a silk scarf from Totême in the images. It’s a slightly bigger size than a lot of the silk squares in the shops nowadays. I’m wearing the dusky blue in size 85 x 85cm. I’ve also been wearing the scarf as a head scar ..read more

A round up of the best sustainable things I’ve found this past month. I bought new workout shorts this week—the scrunch cycling shorts from T/ALA. Sustainably made from recycled polyamide and polyester. They are so comfy! I’ve recommended T/ALA before but this is the first time I’ve tried them. I would recommend them to anyone looking for workout shorts, definitely squat proof. The roses in my garden are blooming! I never knew I needed big lilac roses until this year. I brought five rose bushes into the garden this summer and the lilac has been the most surprising. The fragrance is overpowerin ..read more

Time for A Jumpsuit?
The Green Edition

For any season!  I recently read one of Leandra Medine Cohen’s newsletters on substack and she described where she was writing which I thought was interesting. So I’m doing the same…I’m on a floating egg chair in the Cotswolds, eyeing a suspicious looking dark cloud – although the forecast said sun all day! I bought a jumpsuit at the start of spring and have worn it on repeat throughout summer. They are comfy and easy to wear. It’s a case of putting it on and being ready to go. Whereas a dress can be fussy, the jumpsuit is flattering and feminine without being over the top. The one I’m ..read more

The Sun Hat
The Green Edition

The best sustainable sun hats I’ve been wearing this linen sunhat pretty much every time I’ve left the house for the past few months. Honestly, I’ve meant to buy a sun hat for about ten years. And in the meantime made do with an old misshapen hat – see below – when I sat in the garden. (It’s useless for walking because it doesn’t stay on my head, although I’ve since figured out hat pins are a thing…) Sun hats in my opinion need to (a) stay on my head – hat pins, scarves or bits to tie can help with this. (b) cover at least most of my face, the option to manoeuvre it out of the way is also be ..read more

Yellow Dress
The Green Edition

Summer Colour This summer I’ve updated my wardrobe. I’m mainly wearing dresses – the looser and more billowy the better. I’ve been coveting longer dresses in pale yellow. Like the Cressida dress from By Malene Birger. It’s a beautiful yellow sand shade, made from a combination of viscose and wool. And currently on sale. Toteme have a lovely slouch waist dress in a beached sand colour. The slouchy top falls in a beautiful shape. Blending together linen and viscose, I imagine it sits well on the body. I’d be interested to see if the linen remains crease free, I don’t fancy ironing the slouch! &n ..read more

Cosy Sustainable Winter Hats
The Green Edition

Warm at last! I’ve been looking for more interesting ways to keep warm this winter. The black wooly hat I usually wear is starting to get boring after the 200th wear. So I picked out a cashmere hood from Arket. This one is made from recycled cashmere and responsibly sourced merino wool. If you live somewhere windy, it’s a winner. I’ve spent many dog walks trying to hold onto hats but with the hood it’s no longer necessary! I find it looks good if I pull the top of the hood so it sits further back on the head. I’ve picked the beige but I’m also loving this handmade option from Etsy. It’s bright ..read more

Vegan Nail Varnish – The Best Brands
The Green Edition

Cruelty-Free and Ethical AD / May contain affiliate links. I’ve been making the change to vegan and cruelty-free beauty for years. I used to stay away from vegan nail varnish, I have memories of it chipping after a day of wear and it always seemed to lack pretty colours. Anyway, I’ve been testing vegan and cruelty nail varnish for the past six months and found the formulations are brilliant. Most brands I tried are also free from the worst harmful chemicals found in traditional nail varnish. So better for nail beds, our lungs and the environment. Here are my six favourite eco, vegan and cruel ..read more

Workout Shorts – 7 Sustainable Pairs
The Green Edition

With Plus Sizes Too! AD / May contain affiliate links. I decided to embark on a new fitness regime this past summer! Five days a week I was planking and squatting to my heart’s content. I’ve been working out for years, so I thought I had my perfect workout outfit organised—any type of leggings and a sports bra. However, I was wrong! I’ve come to the conclusion that workout shorts are the way to go. Especially when exercising at home or at the gym. I find leggings can’t cope with the heat produced after five minutes of running on the spot. I’d been on the lookout for a pair of shorts that ..read more

Zero Waste Fashion Tips – Borrowing
The Green Edition
by Laura Cooper
2y ago
I’m calling for people to borrow more clothing! In the past, I’ve lent out dresses to friends of a similar size. My party dresses used to get so much more wear than they do now. If anyone wants to borrow one, please do! In reality, it is madness to buy new when you potentially have another wardrobe to pick from. Wedding guest and event wear can be expensive and impractical to wear many times so it makes sense to look to a similarly sized friend or family member and raid their wardrobe. It’s even considered good luck for a bride to wear something borrowed while they get married! Day to day our ..read more
