The "Meet, Write, and Salutary" blog encourages Lutherans to write. At the same time, maybe this website is better understood as a reading, writing, and resources place.

I daresay I’ve blogged about the Bach to Church collection, but today I’ll let you know that it continues to expand. Now there is a resource page, which includes playlists, a chart of Bach’s chorales that correspond to Lutheran hymns in TLH, ELH, and LSB, performance guides, further reading, and links. How cool is that?!
This is great for musicians, music enthusiasts, the Bach-curious, schools, homeschools, choirs, etc. PLUS, they have included a performance guide for Praetorius’s Christmas Mass! You may or may not know that name but be sure to check it out as you’ll be pleased if you do! Bac ..read more

Hello, since I took so much time off blogging (and who knows how long I’ll have time to continue on a regular basis), but here’s a Kloria Publishing update so you see their recent titles. Buy them all, of course! I’m a big fan.
Mercy! I’ve missed blogging SEVEN hymn titles?! Wow, keep up the great work, Kloria!

Katie Schuermann‘s latest release is The Saints of Whistle Grove. I’m hoping you have already heard of it, since it released through Kloria Publishing back in February. Still, if I’m blogging, however temporarily, I’d be remiss to not mention her and it.
Interested in Lutheran historical fiction? Then this book is for you.
Here’s the Amazon blurb:
After 150 years of preaching the Gospel, the little country parish of Whistle Grove has closed its doors for good, but the faithful Rev. Edmund G. Oglethorpe remains. There is the empty building and the crumbling cemetery to maintain, and ..read more

I know I’m more than behind on recent Lutheran publications. Still, I come out of my workaholicism to announce a new young adult fantasy romance: Domitian by Grace MacPherson.
Grace MacPherson is the daughter of my friend Marie, whom I respect very much. I’m sure this novel is a lovely, talented look at a young woman who struggles to find happiness in a marriage of convenience. Here is the Amazon blurb:
Flavia Octavian is the nineteen-year-old queen of Domitian. Happily married and expecting her first child, life couldn’t be any better.
But when her beloved husband is killed in a s ..read more

Prolific Lutheran author Jody Hedlund has started a new series, Colorado Cowgirls, and today the first book hits the shelves: Committing to the Cowgirl.
Here’s the Amazon blurb:
After years away, Astrid Nilsson has returned home to Colorado, hoping to become Fairplay’s second doctor . . . and to find healing for her reoccurring consumption. Spirited and independent, Astrid doesn’t want her illness to be a burden to those she loves, so she has resisted getting serious about any man.
As the current doctor of Fairplay, Logan Steele is seeking to hire a male physician to take over his clinic afte ..read more

I just got Johannes Quenstedt’s Atonement in Lutheran Orthodoxy for $.99 for Kindle Woah! I won’t have to read it in the foreseeable future, but yay!
Here’s a description:
Johannes Quenstedt’s De Officio Christi is an antidote to errors about atonement in Lutheran circles. Lutheran Orthodoxy teaches that an indispensable part of atonement is vicarious satisfaction. Adversaries deny vicarious satisfaction. Their errors existed already in Quenstedt’s time.
Robert D. Preus says, “Quenstedt was the Thomas Aquinas, so to speak, of Lutheran Orthodoxy, the last great representative. … [H]e was fair ..read more

Ladies & Gentlemen, you’re going to love this. Rev. Andrew Richard and Mr. Nathanael Hahn have been writing plays for their Lutheran school, Mount Hope Lutheran School in Casper, Wyoming. Now they have published three plays: Three Plays: The Travels of Sir Neil Bradley, Linus the King and the Tragedy of Thebes, The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth! AWESOME!
This is the kind of writing I like best: combining a love for words and art with a love for others and vocation. Yay!
I hope to find time to read this. It’s available for the cost of printing, and I’m sure they are just great!

Lutheran author and professor Dr. Mark C. Mattes has released a new book: Christianity’s PR Problem and What to Do About It: A College Professor Accepts the Challenge.
Here’s the Amazon description:
Let’s face it: Christianity has a PR Problem. The secular world often paints Christian faith as intolerant, oppressive, superstitious, and incompatible with the modern world we live in. Amidst such attacks, faithful Christians can feel powerless in defending their views, especially when the opposition points to wrongdoings done in the name of Christianity or by Christians.
In Christianity’s PR Pr ..read more
