In the middle of the city center of Pristina, there’s this cube. A rubik’s cube, as a piece of art. Not sure what it’s doing there, but people seem to walk by it without paying attention. It is at the end of the UÇK main street in Prishtina in the direction of the National Library, in front of the A&M clothing store. If anyone has information on what this cube is doing there, please let me know! I couldn’t find any information about it. Some pictures of the rubik’s cube at different times of the day: See my other posts on Kosovo The post Kosovo: check out this rubik’s cube in the cent ..read more

Eilean Donan is one of the most important attractions in the Scottish Highlands. This 13th century castle located in the western part of the Highlands stands on an island where 3 great sea lochs meet. I didn’t have time to go inside when I was there, but the scenery definitely was worth it, so I’m sharing a few views of it. It definitely is on my list to check it out inside for when I go back to Scotland. Check out their website! Hope you enjoy a few pictures of Eilean Donan: See my other posts on the United Kingdom The post United Kingdom: discover the Eilean Donan castle in Scotland ap ..read more

A little white church on a hill? How cute! If you had told me this landscape was shot in the Netherlands, I would have said.. no way! First, there are no real hills here, everything is pretty flat. So a little white church on a hill? Well yes. It’s actually on a man-made mound, East of the Hague (den Haag), in the village of Leidschenveen. It’s called ‘de terp van Leidschenveen‘, and it’s  really worth a little stop for some picture taking and waking around.  The view from up there is pretty! Mounds like this one are in place in order to get protected from floods and attacks, and thi ..read more

I stopped by this castle Ter Elst in Duffel on my way back to the Netherlands from the Hallerbos enchanted forest in Brussels. It is close to the city of Antwerp. This castle dates back to at least the 12th century (the first writings about this castle have been found from that time) . It was used as a residence for nobles. Just after the French revolution in 1789 and after the revolutionaries pillaged the castle, it was sold to Louis Hermans, a lawyer from Antwerp, who restored it.  It was abandoned at the beginning of the 20th century after heavy damage from the First World War. Have you heard of Decebalus, the last King of Dacia? But wait.. what’s Dacia? Dacia was a land that was existing from 82BC to 106AD around the middle Danube. It corresponds nowadays more or less to the areas of the current Romania and Moldova together (with some parts of other countries too).  Decebalus was the King of the Dacians, he fought against Roman emperors to keep his country independent. This sculpture, which is located in Orsova, Romania, represents the head of Decebalus. It is the highest rock statue in Europe, laying just above the Danube river. The work was commissioned by a ..read more

We all wonder if Nessie exists, right? we all want to be the one who saw her, emerging out of the Loch Ness lake…. well it didn’t happen to me, no matter how much I wished and called her. There is no monster in the Loch Ness lake, there are …. Monters ! Vampires!! Suckers!!! They’re tiny… They’re annoying… They sting… They are called midges! Those BEASTS attack you during the summer as you are quietly looking for Nessie…. you don’t need to look for them, they find YOU! So if you want to go hunt for Nessie, it should not happen in the early morning nor in the early evening if you are there duri ..read more

Are you a Monty Python fan? If so, go through the silly walk tunnel while in Eindhoven! by bike or on foot. The mural, in a 130 meters long tunnel (Dommel Tunnel), was realized by the graffiti artists of Studio Giftig and opened in April 2016 with the presence of John Cleese himself. The mural has 2 drawings of John Cleese, one on each side, from the Monty Python’s Flying Circus “Ministry of Silly Walks” sketch, and drawings of various stages of the walk. Not a Monty Python fan, and no idea what I’m talking about? that’s OKay. Watch this video, or you can just bike or walk through the tunnel ..read more

Have you ever been to an enchanted forest? well…. they do exist, I’m telling you! and there is one just by Brussels in Belgium. It’s called Hallerbos, and it is an absolute jewel!  go in the Spring during the bluebell season. The forest is covered by wild bluebell carpets, and if you are courageous enough to go there very early in the morning, you will highly be rewarded by its beauty. I actually went this year in 2021, on May 1st, and it was my first trip “abroad” from the Netherlands since this whole terrible world situation. I got up at 3 a.m for a day trip and I was there at 5.30a.m ..read more

This 700 year old church has been converted into a bookstore. It is a project that was developed by the architectural firm Merkx + Girod in 2005. The structure of the church has been fully preserved, and it is a quite intriguing bookstore, initially part of the bookstore chain Selexyz until its bankrupcy in 2013. It is now an independant bookstore called “Boekhandel Dominicanen”, and it is labeled to be one the most beautiful bookshop in the world. The gothic style church, called the Dominicanenkerk, was originally built in the XIII century and was dedicated to St. Paul. It can be found close ..read more
