A (Sort Of) Red Carpet Review: Oscars 2021

It sure didn’t FEEL like the Oscars, did it? Not much of a red carpet as very few people actually went beyond the nominees and a few presenters – so there isn’t a whole lot to review (also see my Stories today to hear why I can’t do the standard Red Carpet Review on here anymore). Basically, I didn’t love anyone (see roundup here). Amanda Seyfried looked best of anyone. I was not a huge fan of all the midriff cutouts on Carrie Mulligan, Vanessa Kirby, Zendaya, Andra Day, etc. Regina King’s wings were a bit too costume-y for me. Reese’s dress was a really pretty color combo but not a great cut ..read more

Emmy’s Red Carpet Review!

I wasn’t going to post a review of this because 1) I didn’t even know it was on until halfway through the red carpet and 2) I don’t watch that many shows because I’m 40 and go to bed at 9pm.  But the fashion was actually INTERESTING with quite a few awesome looks! So here we go! My best dressed is probably a tie, but Phoebe Waller-Bridge eeks out on top because I love her and her show Fleabag so much. She is so epically talented AND this Monique Lhuillier is SO good on her with the short hair and subtle makeup. I typically don’t like nude gowns (I feel they wash everyone out in photos), but th ..read more

Red Carpet Review: Oscars 2019

The Oscars were strange- I felt like there were so many big celebrities missing and it was a little underwhelming. That also held true for the red carpet. When Cate Blanchett isn’t there to wow us and George isn’t there to bring the old school swagger, it feels like it’s not quite as big of a deal as it used to be. However, Bradley and Gaga. :)  There WAS Bradley and Gaga, to enchant us with that simple but beautiful rendition of “Shallow”.  I watched the movie again the other night and it was just as devastating and great as the first time. I do think it was snubbed a bit, but haven’t seen e ..read more

Golden Globes 2019 Red Carpet Review

Man, I really struggled with this review today!  I really feel so BLAH about most of the dresses and overall looks from last night and maybe there is a reason for that– because I had a lot of trouble also finding great gowns I would have picked instead!  The fashion world feels a bit underwhelming right now! So I’ll start with Gaga.  I liked the color and the gown on her– it was great and the perfect amount of drama without it being meat or something. HOWEVER, the friggin’ HAIR. UGH!  It felt much less “edgy and funky” than it did “I just wandered away from the Disneyland theme park”. Had he ..read more

Ok, it’s taken me all day to get this up but it’s here! :)  I only caught snippets of the show last night and WAS wondering where all the big stars were? Reese? Gwyneth? Julia? Cate Blanchett? Kate Winslet? Leo? Angelina?  It felt a little underwhelming.  And there were no “gasp” moments for me on the red carpet either, but a lot of “she looks great” and a whole BUNCH of “ooohhh, I would have picked something else”, which is my speciality with these posts so here we go! I think top to toe my favorite was Gina Rodriguez.  Her Zuhair Murad gown was pure Hollywood, a great look on her– she just r ..read more

Last night’s Golden Globes was powerful on so many levels. While Hollywood itself can be very self-congratulatory and seem superficial- I really felt like the speeches and inclusion of so many great social justice pioneers and leaders as “dates” to the super famous on the red carpet really was something special.  Not to mention the showing of incredible support through almost every single person wearing black (I had to cringe at the handful of people who somehow missed the memo, including the president of the HFP).  You may think that having the dress code be only black would make for a rather ..read more

Sorry this is so late- I had quite a busy morning. I did not watch the Emmy’s but of course devoured all the fashion this morning.  I have to say there was not a dress in the bunch that really made me sit up and go “OMG”, which is always a bummer.  There were some pretty dresses, and some major missteps too, though. We are about to finish The Sinner (which is creepy and super dark but good) and I am impressed with Biel’s acting chops.  I thought she looked really pretty last night.  Not my fave dress of all time, but she wears it well. Thandie Newton was also in the same blush tones and look ..read more

Oscars 2017 Red Carpet Review

So I actually thought last night’s Oscars red carpet was pretty boring. There was a lot I didn’t like, a slew I was “meh” about and only a couple looks I really liked. I hate it when that happens!  I still am craving to see people looking pretty and elegant (but unique), not edgy/ugly and “FASHION!!!!” Nicole Kidman was my best dressed. Typically I do not like super pale complexions in nude dresses (which Nicole does allllll the time) but this one was amazing- the pattern, detail and neckline were stunning and that orange-y red lip made the entire look work on her.  Her hair, makeup and jewelr ..read more

I’ll admit up front that I watched very little of the red carpet as I had Henry to contend with and a terrible cold (and hungover husband from a quick trip to Chicago this weekend to celebrate some friends). So I did not see some of these on camera and may have missed some, but from what I did see and the photos this morning I can say this. NOT IMPRESSED. There wasn’t a single look that had me wowed. No clear winner for best dressed for sure. But some that I did like a lot, and lots that I did not. Overall, I have to say that Lily Collins looked gorgeous– even though the dress independent of h ..read more
