My uncle, John Wedderburn, recently passed away. He was a passionate animal rights advocate, and he was an inspiration to me. I’ve written a piece about John in my regional newspaper column, a longer obituary was shared in an international animal rights blog, and you can listen to a short podcast below where we discuss veganism in pets and then we talk about John. John was a remarkable man, and I am proud that he was my uncle.

It’s common for pets to carry too much weight without their owners realising. This podcast explains how to identify this, and how to stop the weight gain before obesity develops. I’ve also written about this topic, using the example of Nola, a young adult terrier cross who’s pictured above. You can read my regional newspaper pet column with Nola’s story here.

Local anaesthetics are widely used in veterinary surgery to allow painful procedures to happen while an animal is conscious. This podcast is a brief summary of how this can be useful in day to day veterinary work. You can also read about the real life case, as in the photo above, which I wrote about in my recent regional newspaper column.

This week’s short podcast discusses life in a busy vet clinic. The ups and downs can be far more intense and demanding than most people realise. This segment was recorded in early October, during World Animal Week, and we go on to talk in detail about the valuable work carried out by the ISPCA, preventing cruelty and protecting animals. I’ve recently taken on the role of Chair of the Board of Directors of the ISPCA, and I have written more about this in my weekly column in regional Independent newspapers.

This week, the Moncrieff Show on Newstalk picked up on my recent article in the regional Independent newspapers, and we discussed this in detail. Societal changes show that parents are having more pets and fewer children. And divorced or separated people are more likely to choose a pet rather than a new human partner. Why is this?
