Spar Proteas head coach, Dorette Badenhorst, announces formidable squad ahead of the 2022 Netball Quad Series in London in mid-January. Cape Winelands beat Nelson Mandela Bay 66-54 to win the 2021 Spar National Netball Championship title in the final at Hoërskool DF Malan on Saturday, 11 December, to bring the trophy back to the Cape for the first time since 2016. The Cape Winelands got off to an excellent start in the SPAR National Netball Championships at Hoërskool DF Malan in Bellville on Monday, 6 December 2021, winning both their matches on the opening day. The absence of three of the top teams, including the defending champions, Tshwane, has given other senior teams an opportunity to shine. Team Bath Netball have announced that they have signed South Africa’s Phumza Maweni, who will join the UK-based team for the 2022 Vitality Superleague season.  Maweni, who has 83 caps for South Africa, is looking forward to join the defensive unit which includes England Roses Layla Guscoth, Imogen Allison and Roses captain, Serena Guthrie.  The Proteas goalkeeper and defender spent three seasons in Australia playing for the Sunshine Coast Lightning side, where she played all 47 games.
