Summary
In a previous post, we discussed ways to share your Dynamo packages with your users. This involved distributing them through a 3rd party service like Google Drive or Dropbox. In addition to this requirement, we targeted sharing packages as this is one thing that hangs users up the most when receiving a Dynamo graph. In this post, we will revisit this option while adding Dynamo graphs to the mix, using the newest version of Autodesk Desktop Connector.
Stuff to Keep in Mind
While the workflow described in this post is possible (and works well in my testing), I encourage you to check out ..read more

It’s that time of year again. Christmas trees have appeared, the weather has changed, holiday decorations are up, and of course, we are all tempted to spend some time playing around with our software creating iconic holiday items. We thought it would be fun to go through one of these explorations for this post.
A few years ago, I worked at an architecture firm. We were supporting a charity at the time, and the task was to design ornaments for auction. I (being a Dynamo user) wanted to make something cool and computational. The result was nice and can be seen below:

Overview:
If you have used Dynamo for any time, you have probably encountered the following scenario.
You: “Awesome, I finished this Dynamo graph. Now let me share this with my firm.” The User, You Shared the Graph With: “It says ‘Run Completed with Errors’ and something about packages.” You:
If you aren’t familiar, Dynamo has a fantastic community of users, some of whom create freely available packages (Packages are like add-ons to Dynamo). This community is awesome and enables so many more use cases of Dynamo. However, with this enablement comes the challenge of managing these ..read more

Dynamo has been around for a little while now. I think we can all agree that it has reached a level of maturity/sophistication that has far surpassed its humble beginnings in Autodesk Vasari.
Dynamo UI from way back when (image courtesy of https://buildz.blogspot.com/2014/01/dynamo-stadium.html)
At the time of this writing, Dynamo is integrated into several Autodesk products. These include (but are not limited to), Revit, Civil3d, Alias, FormIt, Advance Steel, and Robot Structural Analysis.
In addition to all of these integrations, there are version differences at play. For th ..read more

Generative Design is great for a variety of workflows. Some of the simplest workflows to utilize involve randomization. With randomization you are able to quickly iterate through designs, filter down what lends itself to more discussion and refine further.
However, the real power of Generative Design is found when you start to run multi-objective optimization and solve for defined goals. In this post, we are going to explore a workflow for laying out ceiling grids in a way that reduces the material that needs to be cut. This is great because it enables easier fabrication and red ..read more

In recent posts, we have looked at various ways to implement Generative Design in your workflow for everyday tasks. These include (but are not limited to) topics such as, Laying Out Sheets in Revit, Verifying Viewpoints for Camera Placement, and Finding Optimal Room Tag Locations.
For this post, we wanted to take a look at a few of the ways that generative design workflows can help you collaborate with others. As we always say, “Generative Design is a process”, and with it being a process, there are numerous opportunities to collaborate. In this post, we are going to take a look at 5 di ..read more

Introduction
The Baháʼí house of worship currently being constructed in the city of Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is a national house of worship designed for the followers of the Baháʼí faith. The renowned South African architecture firm Wolff Architects conceived the design.
The design is an afro contemporary interpretation of the typical nine-sided Bahai temples, carefully situated on the tropical Kinshasa landscape next to a valley.

In Revit 2023, we received a lot of improvements in Dynamo player. For a quick overview and a few other references, check out this post.
However, one big consideration while working in Dynamo player is, “How are you going to get input from your end-user?”. Luckily there are a number of ways to receive input data from your users. These currently include:
string
double slider
integer slider
number
bool
dropdowns (out-of-the-box ones primarily)
file path
Element Selection Nodes
What is interesting about this list is, that dropdowns are included but limited to the out-of-the-box varian ..read more
