To All of Our Dealers, Customers and Friends, We wish to share with you some important news. During the next two and a half months, we will be finishing up orders currently on the books, winding down operations and preparing to shut down production at our Orange facility as part of a process of closing down the Company. During that same period, we will be continuing work already in progress on developing a plan of support for a new successor entity, the goal of which will be to provide for the continuing supply of Wills Wing products, services and technical support to the hang gliding communit ..read more

Rick Zimbelman
Wills Wing Blog
by Steven Pearson

Rick Zimbelman, long time Wills Wing employee, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 5th, 2021. Rick had worked for Wills Wing for more than 36 years, first in the shipping department, and then as purchasing agent and manager of the physical plant, until his retirement in June of 2017. If you did business with Wills Wing, either as a customer or as a supplier, at any time between 1980 and 2017, you probably knew Rick, his irrepressible, prankish sense of humor, and his outgoing generosity. We are greatly saddened by his passing. Our hearts go out to his wife Susie, and to all of his fri ..read more

Advisory on Parachute Pins/Bungees
Wills Wing Blog
by David Aldrich
3y ago
Long time Hang Gliding instructor, dealer and friend of ours Paul Voight sends this message about a potentially serious issue with your reserve parachute system. On two occasions now, during reserve repackings-clinics, one just yesterday, one a couple seasons ago, have encountered the following SERIOUS issue regarding reserve safety pins: Apparently some pilots (or re-packers) change out the bungees for fatter gauge bungees.  This fat stuff is hard to pass through a grommet even when new. Old bungee hardens and I’ve had pilots trying to do mock deployments, where the chute handle pins com ..read more

Free Upgrade to ‘Monarch’ Falcon 4 Pattern Promotion to Closeout 2020
Wills Wing Blog
by David Aldrich

The response to the Sport 3 ‘Monarch’ pattern has been huge! It’s been really enjoyable to see the creativity in our community as these sails work their way through the shop. We love building beautiful, colorful creations and these gliders really stand out! Many have asked for the same pattern for other gliders so, by popular demand, we have made a ‘Monarch’ pattern for the Falcon 4. Not only that but we are also offering it as a free upgrade on all Falcon 4 orders for the rest of 2020! This pattern is also available for the Falcon Tandem but the trailing edge panel will be made from 240MT, so ..read more

Owen Morse’s New Out-And-Return World Record Flight on The T3 154!
Wills Wing Blog
by David Aldrich

222.22 Miles in the Owens Valley This flight was a dream come true for me.  For six years I’ve been chasing the out-and-back world record, and this year, all the pieces of the puzzle finally came together beautifully. My previous attempts had ended prematurely for a number of reasons – thunder storms on course line, a NOTAM due to a nearby forest fire, a harness pitch cord failure, and running out of daylight (another way of saying I had been flying too slowly).  It takes a lot of things to go right to have success, and one significant thing going wrong can be the end of it all. On ..read more

How You Can Help The Hang Gliding Industry in 2020
Wills Wing Blog
by David Aldrich
4y ago
Things are pretty crazy and uncertain right now. There’s no doubt that just about every industry in the world is getting hit hard by this pandemic and hang gliding certainly isn’t excluded in that. Wills Wing and most of our dealers have been on “lock-down” in one form or another for the last couple of months, not able to build gliders, do tandem discovery flights or give lessons. The situation seems dire but I’m a “lemons into lemonade” kind of guy and think there’s reason to be optimistic. We can make the best of a bad situation and possibly even benefit from it. One reason to be optimistic ..read more
