Life’s Question are injecting flair and technicality into hardcore
Alternative Press Magazine

Life’s Question appear in our Spring 2024 Issue with cover stars Liam Gallagher/John Squire, Kevin Abstract, the Marías, and Palaye Royale. Head to the AP Shop to grab a copy.  Hardcore is a lot less dogmatic than it can initially appear. For all its posturing, it’s a genre and culture that thrives on shaking things up from within. The wave of popularity that hardcore is riding today is notable for its willingness to break the genre’s own rules, frequently in favor of fun, progressive experimentation. Life’s Question are among the most unique acts on the scene right now, primarily because ..read more

11 best Linkin Park songs
Alternative Press Magazine
by Alternative Press Magazine

There has always been something deeply humanistic about Linkin Park. Across seven studio albums, the Agoura Hills-born band dragged forth very real, kinetic darkness, personal pain, and the uncovered raw, uncomfortable reality of depression — all while carving out an instinctual creative path for themselves that turned a boldly blind eye on what the “formula” for musical success might look like. Though they were lauded as nü-metal pioneers for their poignant fusion of metal and rap, Linkin Park seemed to always prioritize creative and personal growth over the stasis of what had been proven pro ..read more

Every song on Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties’ new album In Lieu of Flowers, explained
Alternative Press Magazine
by Neville Hardman

The world of Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties is profoundly detailed in both sound and story. Across three albums, including his latest, In Lieu of Flowers, out today, Dan Campbell has crafted an exhaustive story of narrative fiction that rivals the painstaking process of a Wes Anderson film. This time, he’s enlisted a 16-piece band, and although the full group only play together on two songs — the title track and “Whiplash” — the wide array of instrumentals adds greater depth to the story as West neglects, and then later strives, to examine his own wreckage. To heighten the storytelling, t ..read more

Thursday have been reunited and touring regularly since 2016, and now the post-hardcore alums have unleashed their first new song in 13 years, “Application For Release From the Dream.” Back in 2017, the band said that “new music will only come if we feel it’s truly inspired and adds a new dimension to the band,” and that’s exactly what “Application” does. It begins by picking up where the atmospheric vibes of their once-final album No Devolución left off, and it brings back the band’s OG screamo love on the song’s ferocious bridge. Olivia Rodrigo’s deafening stop at Madison Square Garden
Alternative Press Magazine

Olivia Rodrigo’s shows are an event. Beyond handing out free Plan B and condoms earlier this year, her songs offer catharsis to young women who are in the midst of finding themselves. As part of her GUTS world tour, she stopped by Madison Square Garden in NYC for four consecutive nights, inciting screeches and tears at each one. Her final performance in the city last night was a wholly memorable affair, including scream competitions, glitzy outfits from fans, and bringing out Jewel to sing her 1995 cut “You Were Meant For Me,” toward the end of the show. Fan poll: 5 best pop-punk album covers of all time
Alternative Press Magazine
by Alternative Press Magazine
6d ago
Since the birth of the LP, cover artwork has been an integral part of how listeners receive it. It can offer a glimpse into how the album will sound (Walk Among Us, OK Computer) or simply invite you into another world that’s rife with detail, allowing listeners to pore over the intricacies as they listen from front to back (Sgt. Pepper’s, Dookie). Pop punk is no different, with the genre providing dozens of iconic, and often juvenile, artworks over the years that match the music. That led us to turn to our readers and ask them to rattle off the best pop-punk album covers of all time. From Neck ..read more

System of a Down and Deftones have shared that they’re linking up to play a one-of-a-kind performance by the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco later this year. The just-announced concert will take place on Aug. 17 and will feature the two alt-metal juggernauts co-headlining what’s being billed as “a standalone event at the historic Golden Gate Park.” This could open things up, as in the past, to potential onstage collabs from the longtime friends. This is Tour Diary, where artists give us a behind-the-scenes look at life on the road. Here, the band gave us insight into their freshly wrapped spring tour. Narrow Head cover Crown of Thornz’s 1996 rager “Love Sick”

A little more than a year ago, Narrow Head unveiled their third album, Moments of Clarity, which we named one of the best albums of 2023. Now, the Texas quintet will release a deluxe edition, and it comes with a cover of ’90s NYHC crew Crown of Thornz’s “Love Sick.” While Moments of Clarity generally had Narrow Head vocalist/guitarist Jacob Duarte pouring sweetness onto the mic, the Houston hardcore veteran — and Skourge member — goes full-throated like Crown of Thornz’s own Lord Ezec (aka Danny Diablo) on this equally bouncy take on the 1996 original.
