The Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Jerry Gay met Ted Bundy several years after the mystery of missing and brutally murdered women had gripped the nation. On the early morning of January 15, 1947, a mother taking her child for a walk in Leimert Park, Los Angeles, stumbled upon a deeply disturbing sight: the body of a young, naked woman, cut cleanly in half at the waist. On August 4, 1967, 15-year-old James Gordon Wolcott grabbed a .22 long-barrel rifle and killed his father, mother, and 17-year-old sister in cold blood. When asked what drove him to pull the trigger, Wolcott told the investigators that he hated his family. On August 15, 1995, while on trial for the murder of a seventy-six-year-old cancer patient William George Compton, Christopher Charles Lightsey was gagged for continually disrupting court proceedings.
