“Should you then seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them.”

Two weeks ago, while reading my bible I came across a verse I haven’t been able to shake. In Jeremiah 45 vs. 5, The Lord gives Jeremiah a word specifically for his scribe, Baruch. “Should you then seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them.” Whoa, mind blown. At first glance it may not seem that impactful but look at it again. “Should you then seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them . . .  (Jeremiah 45 vs. 5).” During the time Baruch lived, a person’s connection to a certain prophet or teacher of the word was also an opportunity to climb in social standing. Though Jere ..read more

Wisdoms call: 31 days of Proverbs

What should you do if you feel you need wisdom? Ask and it shall be given to you. A few months ago I began praying for godly wisdom (read more about my story here). I imagined I’d wake up one-day filled with it, without doing anything more than asking it to be so. Things didn’t quite work out that way. This is what actually happened; I prayed for wisdom and God directed me to the book of proverbs. Before I get into what I learned during my 31 days with proverbs (I spent a full day on one chapter), it’s important to understand why I prayed for wisdom in the first place. Why I sought god ..read more

Introducing Six Years And A Quarter Way Through
My Story His Way

I’ve always believed the greatest pains give birth to the most beautiful things. Like a coal under pressure, a woman in labor, and the crucifixion of Jesus, all birth life’s greatest treasures. Two years ago during a time in my life where I was determined to remain faithful though undeniably in distress, I began writing my debut novel, Six Years And A Quarter Way Through. What started off as a means to alleviate my burdened spirit turned into my greatest joy. Twenty Years after I first said I would, I was writing a book; A book, which loosely tells my story while encouraging other young believ ..read more

Learn To Serve

A couple of posts ago I talked about arrogantly quitting my retail job after graduating college. I thought I was above sales, destined for much greater things but after being unemployed for a year, even sales began looking good to me. During that time period God taught me humility, one of the most important things for a Christian to have. It was a hard learned lesson but when I got another job, I believed it to be a reward for finally mastering it. And I did, somewhat but there was still more to know; now I had to learn to be humble enough to serve. “Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants ..read more

What I wish I knew Then:

As a late twenty something year old, I look back at my life with mixed emotions. I don’t begrudge the lessons I’ve learned however I do wish I knew ten years ago, what I do now. It’s difficult recalling some of my past decisions, owing to my fair share of missteps however I take solace in being able to share what I’ve learned with young believers. The old adage says, “a wise man learns from their mistakes but a wiser man learns from the mistakes of others.” In sharing the most important takeaway from my adolescent experiences my hope is it’ll save someone else a lot of heartache and delayed bl ..read more

Get Back UP!!

My five-year-old niece is an adventurous leader. Before she could walk she ran, which made for a lot of falling. Sometimes she got right back up but other times she needed to be picked up, dusted off, and set back on her feet. There was one time in particular when she wasn’t being careful while walking down the stairs, she fell- hard. She got up but slowly feeling the pain of the tumble. Hours after the fall it became clear my niece was more hurt than we thought. Glory be to God, at the doctor’s office it was determined she was fine; with rest she would be as good as new. And she has been: she ..read more

Three Ways God taught me humility

“When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, He had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So He began teaching them many things (Mark 6 vs. 34).” I took the same class for ten years. Before you start asking yourself, how is that possible, allow me to explain. It was the kind of course that had a three-part final examination: the lab, written exam, and practical. The first time I took the test I failed all three parts, later I’d pass the lab but not the written or practical. Then I passed the written but not the practical or lab, and so on so forth. I came really ..read more

“Seek Ye First” . . .

In my last post I shared with you the first lesson God taught me after glimpsing His will for my life; the promise comes before the process. All the lows and heartaches of my process brought me to a well known though often overlooked ordinance. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all else shall be added unto you (Matthew 6 vs. 33).”   Like many Christians, I’ve read this scripture numerous times and marveled at it. I even believed I understood it, I didn’t though and I wouldn’t until I had to live it. Jesus was encouraging the disciples and others, gathered to he ..read more

Have you ever made a date you were really looking forward to? You get your hair and nails done and even buy a new dress just for the occasion. The day of, the minutes can’t tick away fast enough to the designated hour. Finally you’re dressed and ready to go when you get a call or worse yet a text, the person you’re meeting is running late. Instantly, your elation sours to disappointment as you realize you now have to wait. As a young child, my dream was to be the brightest of stars. I imagined being the leading lady in wildly successful movies, TV shows, plays, and joining the elite club of E.G.O.T. (Emmy, Golden Globe, Oscar, Grammy) recipients. I voiced this dream to very few people instead shared a more practical course, though I never truly tuned out the desires of my heart. While in my sophomore year of college God sent me a sign that the dreams I guarded so closely were in fact aligned with His plan for my life. Sitting with my laptop opened to my school’s ‘declare a major’ home page, I saw a commercial t ..read more
