Powerhouse Books, 207 pages. David Goodman opens An American Cannabis Story by detailing his initial visit to see his niece, Jade Stefano. It wasn’t an average familial visit because he was arriving at Jade and her husband Ben’s cannabis cultivation operation in Ellensburg, Washington, to photograph the annual harvest at Puffin Farm. What ensued was a photographic and journalistic pilgrimage to record and report on an entire year of full-scale Washington State cannabis cultivation. While you read the story of the trials and travails of negotiating the complex experience of participating in th ..read more

On April 1st of this year, a surprising twist emerged from the cannabis frontlines: Goldmine Gummies, renowned for their potent, pot-infused treats,  launched the world’s first 100% cannabis-free cannabis gummies.  Their THC versions of the gummy flavors were a hit and customers were asking for virgin ones for the flavor profiles when they didn’t want the high. These “virgin” gummies are available for $6 a pack on Amazon.com and breezhemp.com in the same bold flavors Goldmine is known for (without the psychedelic side-effects): Anti-Gravity Wild Strawberry, S ..read more

Skunk Magazine
by Warren Bobrow

I’ve been a big fan of Alex Pasternack pretty much since he got into business for a reason very personal to me. This reason was about family and how Alex has family who are supportive of his craft, something I could never say of my own family. They have forgotten me. I know, that sounds harsh, but it’s true. That’s why I was initially intrigued by his company, Binske. Sure the cannabis is world-class, everything I’ve tried resonates with me in a deeper sensibility. It’s craft cannabis- not your commercial, terpene sprayed candy flower. Binske is unique in the marketplace. But that’s not the wh ..read more

Male or Female? Identifying Cannabis Sex
Skunk Magazine
by Ben Morris
2w ago
Cannabis plants are dioecious, which means they can be male or female. The bud/flower and extracts people consume come from female cannabis plants, which produce cannabinoid-rich trichomes. These trichomes house THCA (the precursor to THC) and other cannabinoids that have physical and mental effects when ingested. While male plants can produce THC, they are much less potent than females and are not desirable for consumption. Male plants also produce pollen that can cause female plants to create seeds. This is usually not desirable for most growers who are looking to maximize flower yield and ..read more
