Hi! Long time, no see. :) We aren’t on our normal posting schedule right now because being home with our kids has been our priority, but in the coming weeks, we are planning to be popping in here more often. Hope that you’ve been hanging in there!! One thing for sure is that I’ve been cooking and baking more than I ever have in my life. For the most part, it’s been a delicious adventure. It has been cathartic (and a good distraction!) to make something and see the finished result come together. Here are a few of the things that we have been enjoying on repeat during the quarantine: M & M C ..read more

Can you believe it’s February? I am hoping we will get a few nice sledding days still this winter (not too many, just enough, haha). I hope you are enjoying this cozy season! It’s been a while since I shared a links post, and I’ve been saving up a few interesting reads for you! (More links to think about here.) Do you reach for your phone first thing in the morning? I have to admit that I sometimes do — it serves as my alarm clock and is often on the nightstand, so I reach over and grab into check the time, but inadvertently segue to scrolling Facebook and checking emails. Oops — that is no ..read more

Gray’s Hall, A New Restaurant, Comes to South Boston
The Boston Day Book » Food & Drink

I have been waiting rather impatiently for the proprietors of American Provisions, Andy Fadous and Matt Thayer, to open their natural wine bar, Gray’s Hall. I have lived in Southie for over ten years, and many restaurants have come in that we enjoy frequenting like Lincoln Tavern and Loco, but we haven’t had much in the neighborhood that has a small and cozy vibe….until now! Gray’s Hall opened on New Year’s Eve on East Broadway, directly next door to the beloved AmPro. Gray’s Hall touts itself as a “neighborhood gathering place for the South Boston community”, which is a sentiment I can rea ..read more

September is in full swing now, and we’re about to embark on my favorite season, fall. There’s no shortage of fun adventures to have in Boston, especially during this colorful season. The other afternoon, I loaded the kids up in the stroller, and we headed out to one of our favorite parks in South Boston.  The weather was spectacular and we started out from our house, choosing to take a different route than normal  You never know what new things you’ll discover when you do things just a little out of the ordinary. After pushing the stroller up the hill and letting Milo run around for a litt ..read more

A Wholesome Snack with Cascadian Farm
The Boston Day Book » Food & Drink

The other day Laura and I met up at the Clarendon Street playground. It is one of my favorite playgrounds because of the large amount of shade and the huge sandbox that Milo loves playing in. There is also a big area to kick around a soccer ball and several big trees for playing hide and seek, one of Milo’s favorite activities these days. We make sure to always bring snacks when we play, because if we’re being honest, both kids and adults can get hangry. We recently partnered with The Feedfeed and Cascadian Farm, a brand that we have loved for a long time and always have in our home. Cas ..read more

In the height of summer, no one wants to turn the oven on, or at least not for long. But luckily, summer produce is easy to enjoy in simple ways. Here are a few of our favorite easy summer recipes! None of these are unique ideas, and you may have made them all before. But sometimes when the seasons shift, I find that I need a reminder even about dishes that used to be on rotation, to remember to get them back into rotation again. I hope this little list is helpful! Caprese Salad This is an obvious one, because it is just the best, no matter how you do it. The key is really ripe field ..read more

The summer months can be hectic. A good kind of hectic of course, but I still find myself running in circles some weekends wondering where the time goes. Anyone else? Just before the Fourth of July, we wanted to have friends over for dinner, but wanted to make it easy so we could relax and actually enjoy our company. You may recall that we partnered with Wegmans a few months back to share their fun cooking classes at their Natick store. We have partnered with them again today to highlight Wegmans Meals 2GO. The service (and app) enables you to order freshly-made foods for delivery, carr ..read more

Date Night at Bar Lyon

Have you been to Columbus Hospitality Group’s new restaurant, Bar Lyon? We have been anticipating its arrival for quite some time since our dad is French. It seems that French restaurants come and go in this city, and it can be difficult to find a good bistro with affordable fare. A month ago, Matt and I finally got to try Bar Lyon. I had made a reservation a few weeks earlier, which I’d recommend doing as its been a popular spot. (It’s easy to make reservations through Resy on their website here.) Right off the bat, I loved the ambiance of Bar Lyon. It has a true bistro feel with plush ..read more

Can you believe it’s June? Here in New England, ice cream is a thing all year round, but especially as the weather warms up, a frozen treat feels even more delicious. Today or over the next few days, plan to stop in to City Hall Plaza for the 37th Annual Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl — the nation’s largest all-you-can-eat ice cream festival. Proceeds benefit patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber, so this is an indulgence you can feel really good about! The festival runs on June 4th, 5th, and 6th, from noon to 8pm. Event day ticket prices are $10 for children and $15 for adults (under 2 ..read more

Life Alive, a Long-Overdue Review
The Boston Day Book » Food & Drink
by Laura Chassaigne

Before the new wave of fast-casual restaurants serving veggie-centric bowls and salads came about, Life Alive was serving rice, kale, and veggie bowls from their Central Square location. Other locations in Salem, Lowell, and a new space in Brookline also serve the same healthful foods. Plus, we learned that a location in Back Bay is in the works! While I have heard that the newer Brookline location has a more airy and modern feel, the Central Square Life Alive slants more towards the hippie granola side of things, in a good way. I have been known to invent reasons to go to Central Square so ..read more
