As a wedding photographer there are always wedding venues that live on my bucket list. Venues that I’ve seen on social media or wedding blogs that I hope to work at one day. Cape Horn Estate in the Columbia River Gorge was one of those spots. Finally this past winter a couple reached out and I was so excited to hear about their wedding at Cape Horn Estate and I looked forward to it all summer. It was a perfect day with moody PNW skies that cleared to bright sunshine just in time for the ceremony.

Whenever I consider a location for a portrait session I always think about the variety of the space and whether or not I can create images for my client that utilize a wide array of backgrounds. I never stay in the same place or keep my subjects in the same place for their whole session. My sessions, whether they are senior portraits, families, or couples, are very active and always involve some level of exploring our surroundings to find different nooks and new ways to use light. Hoyt Arborteum, in Portland’s Washington Park, is a location that never disappoints and always provides that great ..read more

One of my favorite parks in Portland will always be Mt Tabor. It’s also one of my favorite senior photo locations in Portland. It’s easy to get to, popular but still large enough to find some private spots, and it’s beautiful.
I’ve been walking around Mt Tabor since before moving to Portland. My parents lived in Portland prior to me and it’s always been a spot we would walk the dog or visit on the weekends. Once I moved to Portland I lived down the street for several years and I quickly found favorite nooks to visit and learned how the light hit certain areas throughout the day. It’s this know ..read more

As a photographer I often find myself looking at Google Maps to find new areas that are interesting to me that would serve as a new location for a portrait session that I’ve never worked at before. I have my favorite locations in Portland for senior portraits but I love when folks are open to try a place they’ve never been and trust my intuition and experience that it will work as a great setting. This senior photo session was one of those moments.
While Sauvie Island is not particularly new to me, I’ve had an area of the island on my radar for a while that I knew held a lot of potential. When ..read more

School is back in session and for many that means scheduling senior photos before those yearbook deadlines hit. One of my favorite shoots recently were these senior portraits at Powell Butte.
He was looking for a location that was full of plants and nature and I suggested a couple of my favorite spots. We ended up picking Powell Butte Nature Park in SE Portland for it’s convenient, and beautiful, combination of forest and meadow settings.
We started our session in a more wooded spot which allowed for the early evening sun to sparkle through the trees in the background. We stopped along the way ..read more

Over all of the years that I’ve photographed elopements on the Oregon Coast almost every trip includes passing by the turnoff for Highway 47 to Vernonia and wondering what exactly is out that way. This summer I finally had the chance to take that turn and photograph a wedding at Vernonia Springs.
Vernonia Springs is a 28 acre forested private park, glamping campground, and wedding venue just outside of the small, historic town of Vernonia, Oregon. The property is bustling with natural beauty and is the perfect spot to spend your wedding weekend surrounded by friends and family. The property ha ..read more

Tucked away off NE 28th Ave and NE Glisan St in Northeast Portland is Opal 28, an intimate event space, where these two had their beautiful wedding on a Portland summer Friday. This was my first time photographing a wedding at Opal 28 and I loved it.
Smaller, intimate weddings are such a great experience and with 60-ish guests this one didn’t even feel all that small. Their ceremony took place on the venue’s private outdoor patio with a small number of guests seated in chairs and the remaining folks watching from the cocktail area below.
Prior to their ceremony I photographed some ..read more

Mt Tabor in Southeast Portland has always been one of my favorite parks within the city. When I lived on Hawthorne walking there was a regular part of my weekday routine. It’s also one of my favorite locations for family sessions and portraits. It’s a wonderful forest oasis amidst the sprawling neighborhoods of Southeast Portland. Up until this May, I had yet to photograph a wedding there so I was super excited when these two reached out about their wedding plans and wanted me to photograph their day.
We started the day at the KEX Hotel in the Central Eastside. It’s such a cute hotel with plen ..read more

On a beautiful day on the Oregon Coast, these two exchanged vows on the dunes above the beach, with the iconic Haystack Rock in the distance. The couple had originally planned to have their wedding in Southern California, but due to the pandemic, they decided to move their wedding to their family beach house in Cannon Beach.
The wedding ceremony was intimate and emotional, surrounded by the couple's closest family and friends. The love and support of those in attendance was really special and it was clear that this was a day that the couple would always remember.
After the ceremony, the party ..read more

It goes without saying that I’m always excited to work with couples on their wedding day. Having the responsibility to document meaningful moments never gets old. When I was asked to photograph this couple's sunrise elopement on the Oregon Coast, I was especially excited. Not only was it going to be a beautiful and intimate wedding, but it would also be an opportunity to show the couple the stunning beauty of the Oregon Coast for the first time.
These two are from Kentucky and came across my photos on Pinterest. They had never been to the Oregon Coast before but knew it was exactly what ..read more
