What's with PWM compression?

I've heard some whispers about it, but there's not a whole lot in terms of demonstrations and examples. There's only 2 hardware units and one plugin that I know of that can do PWM compression: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qu8M_ZPP6uQ https://www.waves.com/plugins/kramer-pie-compressor What does it sound like? Why is it so uncommon? Do YOU use it or like it? It it worth doing, or is it obsolete due to some other similar sounding, but cheaper, compression technology? submitted by /u/Tizaki [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

A program that pans the music for people who are partially deaf in one ear?

Apologies if this is not really what this sub is for but it's getting really annoying. Hey all, I am not completely deaf in one ear, but about 30% diminished in one. I am a big music fan and it's really frustrating me. With headphones on basically a song feels like it's being played slightly to the right of me, (as I'm slightly deaf in my left). Okay so the problem is, you can't just adjust the individual volume of each ear to compensate. It may feel like you can but if it is mixed stereo which effectively everything is nowadays, that doesn't work. It's hard to understand why but I'm pretty c ..read more

Got an older Roland FA06 and Juno that are a bit noisy and temperamental. Looking for a seasoned tech to check them out and hopefully get them back up to spec. submitted by /u/New_Strike_1770 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I A/B everything I do. To see if I like it, but oftentimes I'll feel as if my changes are made more by a sort of instinct than any solid reasoning. Like guesswork. You just know or think it's good. I'm sure I'll develop my taste for it eventually, but I'm wondering if anyone else has similar experiences. submitted by /u/t__lll [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Does anyone know of any producers in the UK making aggressive but beautiful music like Nine Inch Nails at the moment?

I'm looking for someone for collaborating on a project I am playing guitar on. There seems to be a wealth of producers who make modern Bring Me The Horizon style pop metal, but that is slightly missing the mark. Having spoken to a few people it seems the on-trend mindset of 'process everything to be massive' is pretty accessible, but I'm looking for someone who might know those tricks, but is looking to be more creative, bold and edgy. I reference NIN as despite all their records being different there's a common thread of technology used to be artistic and bold, not just sonically huge. subm ..read more

I have a crate amp from early 90s I think, and a boss gt 1 guitar effects processor. I always make cool loops on it but I just have to delete them at the end. submitted by /u/Responsible_Pass_200 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

11:56 in this video I’m talking about how he’s got the autotune almost automating out of key for a brief second. I track autotune live through Apollo so I was wondering if there’s another way to do this. Also what do yall think he’s using for distortion & vocoding or whatever that is on here? submitted by /u/Sosjeremiah [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Sound Device 633 Bluetooth dongle
Audio Engineering | Reddit

Hey everyone, I will do a short film nearby and I will use a sound device 633 on the set. I well know this mixer but I want to use wingman to rename my files faster and have a level monitoring on biger screen. So I know I need a sound device Bluetooth dongle for wingman, so my question is do I need the sound devices dongle or a simple Bluetooth dongle will work ? Because 100 euros is really expensive for a compatible bluetooth dongle. I can't do the test because I rent the gear but maybe I can try 1 hour on this week. Thanks for the future quotes. submitted by /u/Salad-Gullible [visit reddit ..read more
