I haven't become her YET.

So you still haven’t kicked her habits to the curb, your lower self, the one that retells her story everyday. Same dang thing. Yeah, she’d like to stay. She’s cozy. She comes around to amuse you with her justification of anger, impatience, anxiety, over-consumption, ignorance, and control or worse. She is satiated on the unfulfilling parts of life no doubt and this summer hasn’t changed a thing YET. For goodness sake. Why not? “Here’s what I think integrity is: it’s choosing courage over comfort, choosing what’s right over what’s fun, fast or easy, and practicing your values.” B. Brown put ..read more

?Nourishing November invite! I need healing. We all do. We all have those things which could be better about our bodies or emotions. I might be the picture of health to some, but I have my own struggles which I want to heal to live more optimized. After 7 pregnancies and 14 full years of nursing, my body has been significantly gifted on behalf of others for 20 years. I love that God has used me to bring life into the world, but I am still doing that daily in different forms. After decades as an elite athlete I have worn myself thin reaching peak performance, through constant travel and ..read more

Are you really poo, poo-ing self-care?

You keep hearing the whispers, the talking heads, and a some raised voices saying that “Christians don’t practice self-care.” Truly, we are to be selfless, self-donating, self-emptying and that the self, in fact,  must die…to self.  While all of this IS true, caring for ourselves does NOT diminish our ability to do those very things. Let’s correlate some things, take off the blinders, and see… The woman upset at life, emotionally eating, gaining weight, refusing intimacy - unhealthy! The woman stressed by kids, escaping into her phone, comparing and despairing - unhealthy! The w ..read more

What is gained through perseverance?

Everything was pointing in the direction of a big, fat ‘NO.’ It was 2006, and I was trying to qualify for my first U.S. Winter Olympic Team. I was unwell with aspects of my health due to overtraining. I was a mother, a breastfeeding mother at that, and a wife. No one else on the U.S. Ski Team was even married, so the light I was painted in was not a bright one at times. My choices during these many years which saw us traveling, racing, and living family life on the road as a prelude to the Games were full of choices quite contrary to those of most elite female athletes. To boot, I was also not ..read more

I’m sick of people I love being sick. I’m tired of people I love being tired. And guess what…I love all people, so that would include you! We all deserve to have our lives optimized so we can show up and be EFFECTIVE and IMPACTFUL, but it hardly happens when we’re living life on our own back burners. I’ve been there. I’ve been in the exhausted, overweight, face full of acne, woe is me, wish my life was different, how is this happening club. It’s not a place anyone of us should remain while having the power over that situation if we willed it. We don’t need to stay in that space no matter h ..read more

The beast of your personal overwhelm.

You know it all too well. You've walked untold miles in the shoes of overwhelm, having so much on your plate that nothing great is getting done, much less the mountain of the mundane that stands in your way: dishes, laundry, dishes, laundry, wipe and wash, to and from work, up and down go babies, in and out of town, left and right run the teens, down and out...FEELS THE MOM. I get you. In fact, I totally get you! As I type this I am distracted by the background noise of a 4 year old and the two year old on my lap straddling to happily nurse and hang on for a time. They are happy. They a ..read more

Friend, you get a choice in this matter… Will 2020 leave you with regret or reset?  I know, I know! “Reset” is a hot topic right now, and for real reasons!
