A hiker came across some peculiar tracks in the Angeles National Forest and posted photos to Reddit. Could these be Bigfoot tracks? Might Bigfoots roam the San Gabriel and Sierra Pelona Mountains north of Los Angeles? Earlier this week, Reddit user Ok-Boot2017 posted a few photos from his hike in Angeles National Forest to the subreddit thread r/bigfoot. He asks others to weigh in: “Maybe Bigfoot tracks in Angeles National Forest?” The three photos show a man’s foot (wearing a size 11.5 shoe) next to a foot-shaped imprint in the dirt, the imprint by itself, and the man’s foot inside the imprin ..read more

Much of southeast Texas are under a flood watch today, with mandatory evacuations along the East Fork of the San Jacinto River. After the tornado outbreak in the Midwest and Great Plains last week, it seems the U.S. can’t catch a break from severe weather. Yesterday, flood waters in Livingston, Texas swept a big rig right off the freeway—with the driver still inside. Onlookers stopped in their tracks by the flooding caught the moment on video. In the clip, you can see the semi-truck lose control and start drifting horizontally as it angles and partially sinks into the water. A man in a fluores ..read more

Peeing and pooping in the wilderness may feel like a rite of passage for the die-hard campers of the world, but it doesn’t always align with the Leave No Trace ethos popular among outdoor lovers. Solid human waste can take a year or longer to biodegrade on its own, depending on the soil type. Plus, human feces can carry diseases that can make wild animals and other humans sick, especially if the waste is too close to a water source. One solution is to always camp near facilities. Another is to collect your waste and pack it out using a wag bag. Or, you can always BYOT—bring your own toilet. Ca ..read more

A research study published today has the scientific community abuzz. Researchers observed an orangutan expertly using a medicinal plant to heal its own wound. It’s the first scientific record of this happening—and that’s a big deal. Scientists have been observing a Sumatran orangutan named Rakus since 2009 when he first moved into Gunung Leuser National Park in Indonesia. In June 2022, a research team noticed Rakus had a “fresh wound on his right flange” and inside his mouth. Scientists believe Rakus had gotten into a fight with another male orangutan. A few days later, the researchers observe ..read more

While hiking in the Everglades, two hikers come across a dozen or so alligators as they walk the trail, and they act like it’s no big deal. Well, one of them acts like it’s no big deal. The second hiker—the one recording—isn’t so sure, but he goes along with it anyway. In the video posted by Melvin and Lilia Rivera, @caminocouple on Instagram, the pair walks along a path in the Everglades. Alligators are everywhere, lounging along the sides of the trail, and sometimes laying right on the path itself. Lilia seems confident that everything’s fine. She tells Melvin: “You should be one of those pe ..read more
