Engineer on night shift?

Context: I graduated 2 years ago and have worked at the same company those 2 years. I have a pretty well paying job with strong benefits (for manufacturing). However, I really dislike the expectation that the engineers are always on call. It's hard to feel comfortable or relax on weekends because you'll get called for random questions or problems semi frequently. And occasionally called in on a really bad day. So I've applied for some other jobs and got an offer for a shift engineer job. However, they had day shift when I applied but now at the time of offering me a job they only have night s ..read more

Does passing the PE exam matter if you can’t get a PE licenses?

Iv been out of school for 5 years and I am considering taking the PE exam to improve my marketability and brushing up my knowledge. However I’m not sure I would be able to get Two PEs to sign off on my experience. I worked with one at my last job but I don’t know a second PE that could sign. So if I apply to jobs would it even matter if I passed the PE but didn’t have a PE license? The jobs I’m talking About are ones that list PE as preferred but not required. submitted by /u/unluckyowl4 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

MBA vs MBS

I have a chemE BS and about 8 years experience and am looking to apply for either management roles or analyst roles. I have a strong data analysis background but no financial training; a lot of the roles are asking for finance but I see a very few positions ask for an MS (not in any specific field). How respected is an MBS for business/finance roles? Is it better to do an MBA and just take a few scientific electives? submitted by /u/Corpulos [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I have a "quick chat" thru zoom with the professor in charge, not sure if it will be like an interview or what to expect. If i get accepted, this would be my first internship/research position. How do I prepare for this "quick chat" and/or research? (Super exciteddd!) submitted by /u/ArgumentTricky9827 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I didn’t know where else to ask but my grandma was washing clothes with oxiclean and white brite. It created a bad smell and she said she breathed it in. Should she go to the doctor? submitted by /u/Ill_Friend7050 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I tried to code both papers of W. Y. Svrcek on how to size 2-phase and 3-phase separators using Python and i think it's pretty legit! I made a Python Notebook out of it if you're interested in taking a look! Anything about getting at PhD and then landing an entry level job that does not require one?

Anything about this, regardless of type of company or degree requirement? Has this sort of situation ever happened in the case of switching interests? Even if the PhD is a requirement or “had minimal purpose” whatsoever (nothing different from landing into position with BS/MS), I guess how could the PhD still be a potential benefit? (Doesn’t have to really be that way, if anything I’d just like to know) Any potential impact career-wise or knowledge-wise (even if this wasn’t related to PhD research)? Any input about this appreciated. Thanks! submitted by /u/Massive_Light5464 [visit reddit] [c ..read more

Is there a patent out there for the acid catalyzed dehydration of ethanol to diethyl ether?

I am currently in a material balance class, and I have a project where I need to do all the material and energy balances around a reaction process that produces diethyl ether. I chose the acid catalyzed dehydration because I remembered it from Ochem 2, and I started searching for a patent that describes the process. Unfortunately, most of the patents I found cover really specific components that I don’t understand, and it seems there is not a patent out there for just the process. I found a selectively and percent conversion table in US patent No. 5,227,142, but sadly I can’t find a patent th ..read more
