Create for a Cause Project This month's Island Batik Ambassador Challenge is a special project. We received a Studio 180 Design - Deb Tucker Tool and a brief to create a bed sized quilt for a child in need. Deb Tucker initiated Quilts Across America to get quilts made for children and is working with Sleep in Heavenly Peace which provides beds for needy children. She aims to provide a quilt to go with every bed made by Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Such a great cause - to get children "off the floor, into a bed, and under a quilt!" I received the Split Rects tool - It is a great way to make ..read more

Today is my day on the Prisms Blog Hop launching a new fabric collection by my friend and fellow Island Batik Ambassador: Claudia of Create with Claudia. This new fabric is like a joyous rainbow or colorwheel. It will make you smile! I think Izzy Bear likes his new pillow. Isn't it an awesome collection! Since I was working this month with Deb Tucker's Studio 180 Split Rects tool (ruler) for my Ambassador project, I decided to use it for my Prisms Collection too. Chaining piecing my half triangles cut with the Split Rects Tool. It really makes creating with this shape FUN ..read more

This month's Island Batik Brand Ambassador was sponsored by the soft toy company, Funky Friends Factory. I picked Izzy the Insomniac Bear because he is super cute and I'm a night owl/bit of an insomniac. And I thought he'd be a great match for my Funky Friend from 2022 -Ollie the Owl.  I used 4 fabrics from the Flour Sack line (great blue and tan flowers). I searched through my Grandma's button box and created a perfect pair of blue buttons. The pattern shows felt for the nose but my sister had wool which worked very well. The nose and mouth really make him come alive! Izzy the In ..read more

March's Island Batik Ambassador Challenge was "All Up To Us". A wide open challenge with any size, any type of project, etc. I decided to play with a block I'd worked on creating in February - a variation of Carpenter's Star quilt block.  Here's the one I made in February  It was a reworking of my antique Carpenter's Star Quilt  I had a grand time playing with the new Flutter Wings Collection featuring lots of butterflies, birds, and flowers. It is perfect for Spring! I also played with the block and flipped the corners to make more of a Churn Dash Star. The quilt has ..read more

This month's challenge for the Island Batik Ambassadors is make a Log Cabin quilt with a brand new fabric collection. I received the awesome black and white word play Zen Funk collection designed by Kathy Engle for Jackie Kunkel of Canton Village Quilt Works. I do love a great black and white collection and fabric with words is a special joy of mine! I also really like Log Cabins and have made several wonky little Log Cabins and also have a couple in my antique quilt collection. I decided to work with this one. But I chose to focus on the center.   Antique Log Cabin c. 1880s, Star ..read more

In honor of the many holiday celebrations that occur in December, this month's Island Batik Challenge is Celebrations. We could do any holiday from New Year's, Easter, Diwali, Channukah, etc. I do love Christmas and the traditional red and green color scheme along with the classic Churn Dash quilt block. If you've been following me at all, you know I really like recreating and giving new life to old blocks and I really enjoy using batiks to give a modern look to traditional blocks.
