Pride month is the commemoration of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, which was the tipping point of the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. The month-long celebration in June  involves parades, and other special events movements to celebrate the progress of the LGBTQ+ community. Throughout the month, music artists and performers have celebrated their sexuality while others finally addressed their sexual orientation through the process of “coming out.” Last year was no exception when the “Old Town Road” rapper Lil Nas X urged his fans to take a closer look at his song “c ..read more

Playing God with the Criminal Justice System: The Death Penalty & Black Lives
Tha Afterparty Radio Station
by Tamara M.

While some crimes are so heinous that they arise to the occasion of the death penalty, the real problem with the system, besides the obvious of trying to play God with the criminal justice system, is its inherent fairness to black lives. Case in point is what happened in Nathaniel Woods Thursday night when the state of Alabama threw commonsense, decency, fairness and basic humanity out of the window and decided to execute Nathaniel. Nathaniel was charged with the murder of three cops, but the problem was he didn’t pull the trigger. He knew it, the DA knew it, the judge knew it, the cops knew ..read more

Tha Afterparty Radio Review: ‘Songs About Sounds’ by Sarah Schonert
Tha Afterparty Radio Station

I’m not going to lie – “Songs About Sounds” was definitely different and interesting, which can be taken in a variety of ways. I would suggest listening for yourself and develop your own meaning around that sentiment. But, first, let me backtrack. One thing about Sarah Schonert is she definitely has a unique sound and an authentic quality about her that’s hard pressed to come by in a world full of cookie-cutter artists. However, with this type of indie/pop/synth style, it’s definitely not for everyone. For me, this one was a little hard to get into based off the first song, but as I kept liste ..read more

Is the Iowa Caucus a Predictor of Another Disastrous Election for Dems?
Tha Afterparty Radio Station
by Tamara M.

What does the disastrous Iowa caucus debacle say about the Democratic Party and the 2020 general election? If anything, it shows a party that wasn’t prepared, wasn’t led properly and one that managed to beat itself by trying to be too clever. Officials promised and promised that the process would run smoothly, but it was anything such. It took about a whole 24 hours later, effusive apologizing and a press conference before we got the results we were so anxiously waiting for. Since many have predicted that winner is more than likely to be the 2020 Democratic candidate, it’s pretty important for ..read more

No Cappin’: Kap vs. The Carters

It’s common knowledge by now that Colin Kaepernick isn’t afraid to speak his  mind whether the situation calls for it not. In his usual no-chill mode, Kap came for Jay-Z after video surfaced of Jay, Bey and Blue Ivy sitting during the National Anthem. The former QB-turned-crusader quipped, “I thought we were ‘past kneeling’ tho” in reference to Jay’s remarks a while back in reference to Kap’s now infamous kneeling during the anthem in protest of cops senselessly killing black folks. Let’s break this on down. Kap took it as a personal affront when Jay made his remarks, which he seems to believ ..read more

Black History Month a Portrait of Strength, Perseverance & Milestones
Tha Afterparty Radio Station
by Tamara M.

To mark the beginning of Black History Month, Google has chosen the lunch counter sit-in at Greensboro, North Carolina for its Doodle. The Greensboro Four bravely stood up to racism and discrimination by sitting at a whites-only counter at Woolworth’s. On day one, the four black college students waited all day despite not being served. Resolute in their mission, they returned on day two with the same results. However, by the third day, more than 300 students joined the movement, which lasted months and started a wave of similar demonstrations throughout the South and proved to be a monumental ..read more
